t' Hen party Agrarian cagers Lambsy divy F.F.A. club Repair crew Tiller-s of the Soil The major purpose of vocational agriculture is to help rural boys become established in farm- ing. In order to do this, boys are given instruc- tion in soils, crop production, care and feeding of farm animals, and farm management. The freshmen were included in agriculture for the first time this year. They joined the sopho- mores in the study of soils and crop production, making a total of 28 enrolled in the class. The study of the care and feeding of farm animals, offered to the juniors and seniors, is made more interesting by visiting the farms in the locality and judging livestock. The seniors also have a course in farm management in which the busi- ness side of farming is taught. The boys also work in farm shop where they repair home equip- ment, make new and useful things for the farm, and wash, oil, and repair harnesses. During the year all boys enrolled in vocational agriculture carry out projects on animals, crops, or farm placement. Approved practices are followed in these projects and records are kept, The Future Farmers of America, better known as the F.F.A., provided a complete program of work, recreation, and entertainment for 35 mem- bers, under the leadership of their president, Armon Leiter, who in mid-term joined the avia- tion cadets and took math studies to help him in this line, and with the help of their vice-president, Emery Townsend, also an aviation cadet, who assumed the presidency. Other officers were: Milton Hammond, who joined the Navy, treas- urer, Paul Tupes, and reporter, Richard Peterson. ln the FFA. speech contest, Wayne Waldron, with his oration f'Post-War Agricultural Prob- lems, proved to be a very good speaker by win- ning first place in the regional held at Fremont, and placing third in the state contest held at MSC. The speech competition is one of three national contests sponsored by the national FFA. ln the entertainment field were two parties, one in co-operation with the home ec. department and the other an independent St. Patricks Prance. The FFA. took part in the basketball round- robins with Portland and Belding, in which Beld- ing captured county honors. The boys also played a few games with other teams for fun. A softball team for the summer months is being organized to play off a seven-game schedule.
