CLASS HISTORY In the month of September ln the year of thirty eight several meek, shy little girls and boys entered for the first time their second home Mlss Dorothy Hayes greeted us with a smlle and put forward a helpinc hand to gulde us through a year of new experiences From the fourteen ln our Sen lor Class the following began under Miss Hayes Nell Pennebaker, Mable Maxwell, Carrie Nell Hughes Leda Mae Herring, Jean Sheffield, Pat Hendrlcks, John L Shepard, Ramey Tinnin, and Jane warren fter a year of smiles and tears we moved down the hall where Ara Mullen, now Mrs Hunter Pratt, drilled through our HOgglHS correctness of speech Of the many things we learned that year one thing in particular stayed with us never say ain't Miss Lillian Gladish was our third grade teacher Durina this year we learned two things manners and citizenship Although we aren't all Emily Posts now, we can't forget these two outstand ing things of the year Lillian Gunnels, now Mrs W A Hunter, was the unfortunate receiver of our group 1D the fourth grade Miss Gunnels taught each of us to count money She became ill and Miss Bertle taught us for about a month fconfidentially we didn't know we would meet Miss Bertle 1n later yearsj Grade five brought on a new light Miss Leona Wllllams drllled many things into our thick skulls We buckled down to work and began grow ing up . o A o ' . Class Hlstory contd Mrs McClenahan, now Mrs Hatcher, whom we still call Mrs Mac, ' prepared us the followlng year for JUHlOP high She won us over from the beginning with her calm, sweet disposition She taught us that we should do worth while things out Of SCUOO1 The outstanding thing of the year was the beginninn of each person's having a hobby It was this year that Mary Combs Joined us Then we entered Junior high' New romances new hairdos, and lipstick were all a part of Setting adgusted to our new routine The two years in the JHUlOP high were very new and difficult for us, but Miss Bertie showed us the way Jeanelle Klmbrell Joined us in our first year Junior high Roy Davis also Joined us during our Junior high years First year high school made us all feel pretty important We now had 22 members in the class several pupils moved, but Betty Morgan flrst year at Inverness High, and he became our home room teacher He helped to make our first year of hiah school more pleasant In the lOth year Miss Evelyn Ivy was our home room teacher we were full fledged members of the high school now It was wonderful to be able to take part in the mlnstrel nd other high school actlvltles we lost Betty Morgan to Indian ola thls year, but Bllly Stowers, Elizabeth Wasson and Morris Wright Jolned us Miss Joy Bryan became our sponsor in frade eleven We were Junlors' It certainly sounded good to our ears This was a busy year for us, since we had the Junior play to work on The outstandlng event of the year was the Junior Senior narty I ' Q . 5 . - .
