Generating and putting it to work is part of the task performed by the fifteen officers and six hun- dred men of the Engineering Department. In addition to providing the power that turns lntrepid's four main engines, the Engineers give the city all of its electrical power, its lighting and communi- cations, its heat and air-conditioning, refrigeration and fresh water.
