Track At Interstate This year's track team lostanumber of its personnel for various reasons and finished the season with four seniors, one junior, and seven sophomores. The team placed second in two triangulars, and fourth in the Redman Relays at Indianola Several school records were set by the team this year. Monty Morris ran the 100-yard dash in l 10.5 on two different occasionsg Dave Smith ran the 120-yard high hurdles in 16.3, and the 440-yard relay team composed of Morris, Phil Strawn, Smith, and Don Coleman ran 47.6. With Smith and middle-distance man Galyn Bedwell only sophomores this year, and with junior Phil Strawn back next year, the Interstate thinclads have the nucleus for a good team. MARILYN PETERSON CATHERINE BELL MARTHA STUART Girlsf' Softball Team Compiles Good Record f P f After only two years of competition, the Interstate 35 girls' softball team made a commendable showing, turning in a IO and 5 record and advancing to the semi-finals of the district tournament be- fore being eliminated by Van Horne 18-17. The girls won the sectional tournament at Bedford with victories over Diagonal, East Union, and Leon, getting excellent pitching from Catherine Bell. These victories also featured timely hitting and tight fielding by the entire team. Interstate crushed Pella Christian 15-3 in the first round of the district before falling to Van Horne. Seniors on the team included Marilyn Peterson, Catherine Bell, and Martha Stuart. Leading hitters were LaDonna Kirkpatrick, Martha Stuart, Therese Bell, and Carmen Morris.
