WE RE IIY TOUCH'' In 1921, Glen-Nor Junior Senior High School opened its doors at South and Sylvan Avenues in Glenolden. The students from Glenolden and Nor- wood attended Glen-Nor Junior Senior High School. The students from Prospect Park attended the Pros- pect Park Junior Senior High School located at Tenth and Washington Avenues in Prospect Park. On April 21, 1955, the school boards of the bor- oughs of Glenolden, Norwood and Prospect Park ap- proved a plan whereby the three boards formed the Interboro Joint School Board. In 1959, an extensive expansion program was completed in both the Ju- nior and Senior High Schools, and in 1966, students from Tinicum Township were added on a tuition ba- sis to the school district. In July 1969, Tinicum Town- ship became a member of the Interboro Jointure. In the summer of 1970, the Department of Education gave preliminary approval for the construction of a new senior high school. On July 1, 1971, the Interboro Jointure was changed and became the Interboro School District. In September 1975, the new Interboro High School was opened, and the first graduating class from the new building was the Class of 1976. In September 1976, the 9th grade was added to the high school. The Interboro School District presently has a ninth to twelfth grade high school and a sixth to eighth grade middle school in each of the four community schools. 2 In Touch CALENDAR OF EVENTS Sept. 9 First day of school Oct. 7 Back-To-School Night 7:00- 11:00 9 Interquarterlies Issued 20 PSAT Testing Nov. 7 SAT Testing 11 NO SCHOOL- In Service Day 13 Report Cards Issued 26-27 NO SCHOOL- Thanksgiving Recess Dec. 11-12 Theatre Interboro Performance 8:00 PM 17 Winter Concert 7:30 PM 18 Interquarterlies Issued 24-31 NO SCHOOL- Winter Recess Jan. 1-3 NO SCHOOL- Winter Recess 18 NO SCHOOL- Martin Luther King Day 25 Second Semester Begins 27-29 DAT Testing 29 Report Cards Issued Feb. 15 NO SCHOOL- President s Day 26 Freshmen Semi-Formal Dance Mar. 4 Interquarterlies Issued 18 SOPH Hop 19 SAT Testing 25 Junior Prom 28-31 NO SCHOOL- Spring Recess Apr. 1 NO SCHOOL- Spring Recess 25-29 CTBS Testing 28 Spring Concert 7:30 PM May 6 Senior Prom 13 Interquarterlies issued 13-14 Theatre Interboro Performance 8:00 PM 16-20 Art Festival 19 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony 30 NO SCHOOL- Memorial Day June 6-10 Senior Exams 13-15 Underclassmen Exams 15 Commencement Assembly 9:30 AM 16 Graduation 6:00 PM 17 Report Cards Issued 0 M) mniN fTiENu 5ENIDR5 17 FRCULTV S3 CLR55E5 71 RCTIVITIE5 R7 5TUDENT LIFE 1E3 RTHLETIC5 135 PRTRDN5 1E3 3 WITH EDUCATION Whether it be taking notes, doing research, following directions, or SSR, these BUCS are getting the job done with class. FRIENDSHIPS KEEP US SMILING The mood was definite- ly upbeat during school year 87-88. Wher- ever students could be found: in class, in the hallways, in the lobby, or even out on the athletic fields, the feeling of friendship was displayed. BUCS ABROAD A group of Interboro students traveled to West Germany with Herr Gefrorer last sum- mer. The month long trip lasted from June 22 to July 22. The trip participants were: Carolyn Freeberry, John Greskoff, Fatty Jost, Colleen Marsala, Russ McDaid, Ken Pearl, and Ed Shepeski. The students stayed with host families in Krefeld and attended classes at Fichte Gymnasium. They went on day trips to Co- logne, Aachen, Venlo (Holland), Bonn, and Trier. Four days each were spent in Berlin and at Burg Bischofstein on the Mosel Riv- er near Koblenz. During the last week, the students trav- eled to Munich by way of Heidelberg and to the medieval town of Rothenburg-ob-der- Tauber. The group saw Salzburg; traveled through a salt mine; and visited the village of Oberammergau and Heuschwanstein Castle. 8 BUCS INVADE CANADA Madame Burgess and eleven Interboro students flew to Canada in June to investigate our neighbors to the north. Trip participants were: Cheri Archer, Tracy Blithe, Dawn Chesnet, Shelly Coleman, Andrew Horan, Cathy Marren, Ken McLamon, Tina Mengenie, Mike Paquette, Mike Sharp, and Stephanie Zinni. The CM Tower, at 1,465 feet, provided a panoramic view of modern Toronto, while the Maid of the Mist boat ride intro- duced the group to roaring Niagara Falls. While passing through Ottawa, the Capital, the group vis- ited the national parliament buildings. In Montreal, the second largest French-speaking city in the world, they were encouraged to use their knowledge of the French language. Cultural activities included the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit, the use of the Metro system, the theater, sidewalk cafes, and disco roller-skating. Within the ancient-walled city of Quebec, the students en- joyed great shopping, les crepes fantastiques , and meet- ing some very nice Canadians - the perfect finale to an excit- ing trip! 9 BETWEEN CLASSES TAKING A BREATHER Time between classes is generally spent socializing. Tirst and Second lunches pro- vide the best opportunity to catch up on 'what's happen- ing . Some students elect to get some fresh air, while oth- ers just hang out in the lob- by. Lunch is definitely the fa- vorite period of the day for most students at IHS. At any given time during the day at Interboro High School, you can find students doing the following: bending glass in Chemistry, cramming for a vocabulary test, hitting a homerun, reading a selection of BEOWULF, taking orders from a TV director, playing a few notes of FEVER, learning our country's Constitution, speaking a foreign language, contemplating the quadratic formu- la, getting suspended for lateness, or just hanging out. These occurrences are only some of the many fascinating things that we experienced during our high school years. They will remain with us as memo- ries not only for tomorrow, but for many days to come. 12 L Ik WORK, REST, PLAY . . NEVER A DULL DAY! 13 14 On any given day, literally hundreds of jobs are begun and finished. The work is on- going with jobs such as chem- istry experiments, using ma- chinery, mixing red clay, or lis- tening in the foreign language lab. 15 t '3. Each morning a team of announcers present information on activities and sports during homeroom. This year we at Interboro were proud to have Tracy Blithe, Kathy hedrich, Sharon Lally, Deana Paugh, Keith Powers, and Owen Peirce as talent. Of course, no broadcast would be complete without Collin Keen's weather forecast along with the eighteen other students who did the engineering for each of the broadcasts. Among them were the directors Robin Barnes, Pete Maas and Richelle Hersker who did aTI the technical wizardry and made the show more interesting. Mr. Mullin, the sponsor made sure that they get on the air on time. 117 Tracy Blithe Donna Newlin Kristin O'Neill Christina Lerch Annette Bianco Katy hedge The yearbook staff worked hard to meet deadlines this year. Along with the above mentioned, I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to my other editors Valerie Hall and Kristen OTieill. lam also grateful to fir. Mullin for his emergency photography work and for his support and interest. Also, security aid Judy Mulhern was most helpful in putting names to faces in many of our group shots.
