Keough u'as solemnly installed in the Cathedral as the eleventh archbishop of Balti- more. Our neu' spiritual shepherd was freeeived with great rejoicing and warmth of affection by the Catholics of Baltimore. The students of the Institute of Notre Dame have pledged to Arch- bishop Keough their prayers and loyal support. Our story takes place in one of the great cities of the nation, an industrial and niaritinie center called Baltimore. In one of the residential sections of this metropolis is situated the Institute of Notre Dame, a school attended by more than fire hundred girls. Here in the year 1947-19,18 the eharaeters studied, zeorkecl and played away their high sehool rla ys. LOCKER ROOM-chief source of social life at 8:45. Pat Ayd, Carolyn Vogel and Doris Starkey put away lunches and coats before starting school. SCHOOL HALLS-those wide passage- ways that lead to class rooms, labs and library. Rose Marie Meadow-Croft, Mar- garet Lang, Joan Caughy, Dolores Rider, Mary Theresa Buffington, Doris Kimball and Mary Crosby rush through corridors to make classes on time. ENTRANCE--the first and last thing we see at the Institute. Book lovers Ann Klein, Bibbs Crosby, Betty Simmons and Rose Rogers examine the shelves for good read- ing material. AUDITORIUM- for meetings, musi- cals, plays and page- ants. Frosh drama- tists enact a courtesy skit while the student body watches atten- tively. l'HAl'EI.- center of spiritual life at l.X.D. A group of students take time out from their studies for a few minutes of quiet prayer. Doing additional as- signments requires in- formation to be found only in a library. That's just what Mary L00 Vaeth is doing as she is handed her hook by Sister Alvin, the librarian. GYNINASIUNI-w'here our school develops its physical well-being and our athletes 'win trophies. A junior class re- ceives instructions in the art of marching as they learn that practice makes perfect. Various Activities YARD-SCHOOL GAR- DEN. During the warm fall and spring days, students re- lax heneath the trees as they lake their noon refreshments. IJUNCHROOM-this one happens to be known as the green room. The gayest and noisiest period of the day, as enjoyed by a group of hungry sophomores. 18 Filled in the Day SLATE STAIRS- in the absence of escalators and ele- vators, students are forced to use this more common form of transportation. The happy smiling faces of Mary .lane Barry and Bihhs Crosby in- dicate that they are on their way down the steps to leave school. OUTSIDE VIEW OF ENTRANCE- iron grill- work adorns the students' en- trance to the Institute. Pat Peach, Peggy Toner, Mary Evelyn Gunning, Ann Malloy, Pat McCourt, Ann Mc.-Xtee, Jane Vavrina and Rose Marie Wist make their daily depart- ure a few minutes after the dismissal bell. 19 SEWING ROOM- here un- derclassmen learn to sew a fine seam worthy of zz fashion show. Was After it was over, everyone agreed that the carnival was one of the nicest activities of the year. With one purpose in view, to make money for the Crusade and school newspaper, Windows, the affair was judged an overwhelming success. The whole student- body from first graders to high school seniors attended. The school yard was just lilled with girls when over 800 of them arrived for the big sale. Everywhere the1'e were attractions dear to a teen-agers heart. Nylons as well as ham- burgers, and even a small puppy were to be found among the things to be bought. Stu- New, Epzb-making Event dents tossed pennies and threw rings for prizes. Clowns sold their wares, bags of pretzels and potato chips, and balloon pedd- lers were much in demand. The usual lolly- pops, ice cream and cakes helped till in the menu. For the religious-minded there were roszxries and other articles of devotion. When the hell rung for the end of the carnival, there wus at general groan that so enjoyable an event could he over so soon. Students watched the Baltimore skvline as the boat moved out of the harbor.
