Senior Class Play On Friday, March 30, the senior class presented their class play, MADE-'IO-ORDER HERO. It is a farce-comedy in 3 acts, by James F. Stone. Clarence Threepwood, not dumb, but a rather timid young man, believing he is with- out glamour or anything that appeals to the girls of the school, accepts the guiding suggestions of Beansy Benham, who undertakes to give Clarence what it takes to be pop- ular. Together they manufacture a heroic back-ground and a last-year's romance with an unknown young woman whose picture they find in the society columns of a city paper. Vaughn Beach, school track star and Clarence's rival in Mary's interest, doubts the romantic claims so suddenly acquired. He prevails on Kay Troy, a chorus girl, to im- personate an ex-flame of Clarence. Before their plans get under way the girl of the newspaper picture, Dolores Parker, arrives at the school to visit Hortense Holly and Helen Stringer, an echo to Hortense. Matters become more complicated when the school coach, Jack Bartlett, insists that Clarence substitute in the track events for Joey Work, who has suddenly been stricken with illness. Clarence, already confused by his imaginary love-life, is none too eager to compete against Vaughn, but agrees when Mary promises to go to the dance--if he wins. Dolores, realizing that Clarence is on a well-known spot, does not help matters when she decides to give him a lesson because of the false story he told about them. Clarence is stumped, but not so Beansy, who trains him for the reace. When race time arrives, he drops a pet baby alligator from the school lab, in Clarence's running pants. Clarence wins--but finds himself in more trouble. Beefy Glump, Dolores' fiance, arrives on the scene to check up on her, and threatens to liquidate Clarence with pleasure. Mary is heart-broken about Clarence's perfidyg Vaughn is furious about losing the race, Dolores tries to get out of the situation gracefully without succeeding. Then Joey Work, the track man who was ill, appears in the social rooms, having come against Doctor's orders, to watch the race. He brings with him a case of smallpox, so the doctor reports as he puts the entire group under quarantine. Clarence tries to escape from quarantine--and Beefy --disgised as a mummy, but is caught. Eventually the doctor completes his mistaken diagnosis, Mary hears the true story of Clarence's glamour past, and all ends as happily as could be expected under the circumstances.
