It is a farce-comedy in 3 acts, by James F. Stone. Clarence Threepwood, not dumb, but a rather timid young man, believing he is with- out glamour or anything that appeals to the girls of the school, accepts the guiding suggestions of Beansy Benham, who undertakes to give Clarence what it takes to be pop- ular. Together they manufacture a heroic back-ground and a last-year's romance with an unknown young woman whose picture they find in the society columns of a city paper. Vaughn Beach, school track star and Clarence's rival in Mary's interest, doubts the romantic claims so suddenly acquired. He prevails on Kay Troy, a chorus girl, to im- personate an ex-flame of Clarence. Before their plans get under way the girl of the newspaper picture, Dolores Parker, arrives at the school to visit Hortense Holly and Helen Stringer, an echo to Hortense. Matters become more complicated when the school coach, Jack Bartlett, insists that Clarence substitute in the track events for Joey Work, who has suddenly been stricken with illness. Clarence, already confused by his imaginary love-life, is none too eager to compete against Vaughn, but agrees when Mary promises to go to the dance--if he wins. Dolores, realizing that Clarence is on a well-known spot, does not help matters when she decides to give him a lesson because of the false story he told about them. Clarence is stumped, but not so Beansy, who trains him for the reace. When race time arrives, he drops a pet baby alligator from the school lab, in Clarence's running pants. Clarence wins--but finds himself in more trouble. Beefy Glump, Dolores' fiance, arrives on the scene to check up on her, and threatens to liquidate Clarence with pleasure. Mary is heart-broken about Clarence's perfidyg Vaughn is furious about losing the race, Dolores tries to get out of the situation gracefully without succeeding. Then Joey Work, the track man who was ill, appears in the social rooms, having come against Doctor's orders, to watch the race. He brings with him a case of smallpox, so the doctor reports as he puts the entire group under quarantine. Clarence tries to escape from quarantine--and Beefy --disgised as a mummy, but is caught. Eventually the doctor completes his mistaken diagnosis, Mary hears the true story of Clarence's glamour past, and all ends as happily as could be expected under the circumstances. Mr. Phillips SENIUR CLASS HISTORY In September, 1952, thirty two Freshmen began the four most exciting years of their school life. Excitement in the form of initiation, carnivals, ball games, banquets, plays, and class work with new and unheard of subjects. Our initiation came first, we came to school with our clothes wrong side out, hair uncombed, barefooted with red and green ribbons tied around our big toes. Our first year in High School we had two class parties. Our King and Queen for the Carnival were Dale Vaught and Mary Ann Smith, We sold chances on a pair of bedroom lamps. Our Junior High School basketball team won first place in the Rogers County Tournament. The second year our enrollment was again 32, although we had lost some old ones and gained some new ones. We had two class parties our second year. Our King and Queen this year for the Carnival were Virginia Bryan and Chris Duncan. We sold chances on electric blankets. Some of our Sophomores served at the Junior -Senior Banquet. Our Junior year was most exciting! Our enrollment dropped to 25. We sold pop and popcorn at the ball games. We succeeded in beating all previous records in making money. Our Junior play, Hillbilly Weddin, was a big success. Here again we beat all records in raising money. Our Junior -Senior Banquet theme was Mexican. We en- joyed putting up the decorations for the Banquet. We were thrilled at receiving our class rings. Mary Ann Smith and Dale Vaught were chosen to lead the Seniors down the isle at the Baccalaureate and Commencement Exercises. The Junior girls were Usherettes. We again had two class' parties during the year. And now our Senior year--Our enrollment dropped to 20. Some of the most enjoyable events this year were: Making our Senior Pictures, Ordering our Announcements and cards, Senior Parties, Making the Annual, Publishing The Long Horn News four monthly High School Paperj, Being guests at the Alumni Banquet, the Christmas Program, in which the Seniors put on The Nativity Pageant, wearing the Caps and Gowns, Senior Day, Junior -Senior Banquet, Baccalaureate, Commencement, The Reward--Our Diplomas, and then the FUTURE. May we in closing our High School History thank all those who have helped us make it a record to be proud of. We shall never forget the happiness we have had at The Inola High School. r-- -flflli ' -5 -r , ... I decided I would travel around and see what had happened to the fine, intelligent, studious class of 1956, and I thought you might like to know too. First of all I went back to Oklahoma to see if anyone had stayed in the Old Home Town. As I entered the thriving metropolis of Inola, I noticed that a basketball game was in progress. You would never guess who was coach- -Deloris Honeycutt Adams. She told me that her best players -were Dicky, Nicky, and Licky Beard, sons of Virginia Beard and husband George. It seems that Virginia has really become civic minded, she has established a sewing circle in Inola. When the ball game was over, I drove on to Tulsa to visit Phyllis Dunlap, who was married to the president of Tulsa University, Thomas Dunn. She was so thrilled at the thought of seeing all the class mates again that she decided to go with me. Phyllis talked me into going to some of the better social gatherings in Tulsa that evening, so we went to the wrestling matches. Who would be refereeing the matches but Shirley McGrew. She told us that Clayrene McDaris Vaught was now teaching biology at Northeastern State Teachers' College, Tahlequah, where she has won much fame for her ability to dissect a flea. From Tulsa, we went to Kansas City. While we were there, we saw the Globe Trotters who were managed by none other than Dale Vaught. He told us that his old friend, Larry Klinefelter, was known far and wide for the road signs he painted. We decided we would stop by to see Tommy Joe Brown in Minnesota, who was now pres- ident of the American Dairy Association. We asked him what had happened to Christop- her Duncan. He told us that Chris was very rich now. He had invented an automatic horn for Plymouths, that honked at cute girls. While we were in that part of the country, we stopped by Chicago to see if we could get Mr. America of 1976 to give us his autograph. You can't imagine our surprise when we found out it was our old schoolmate, Charles Philpot. We asked him what had happened to Butch Spurlock and Tommy Riggs. He told us that they now owned the Indianapolis Speedway. From Chicago, we traveled on to New York to see the premier of the new million dollar movie which starred Bob Luster, the famous romeo of the screr 1. We were walking down Broadway, when we saw a neon sign which read, You Never Flunk with Funk. When we investigated, we found it was our old frierzu, Janice Funk. She's making millionsltraining models. She told us that one part of the course was taking dancing lessons at Arthur Murray's Studios which were now managed by Lloyd Hardison. While we were in Miami Beach, Florida, we saw Dr. Joe Ben Simmons. He told us ' that he doctored French poodles for sun burns. While we were in New York we went to the National Cooking Contest. The winner was Russell Brunson, He won first place with his recipe for caviar and spam sandwiches ala mode. We decided we would go abroad for a month or two. While in Paris, we met Madame Doris Brunson, the famous author. Her latest book, HOW TO STAY SINGLE, is a best seller. Doris told us that Mary Ann Smith was a big game hunter in India. She also trains tigers to catch men who are AWOL. It seems that she is an honorary AP for the Air Force. Well, that includes all of our class except me. I made so much money selling popcorn at the Orange Bowl that we were able to buy a Construction Company down in Cuba. Sincerely yours, Dorothea May Froe se Hiebert 2.4 , , X . .
