It meant good diction, rhumbs in, ond smiling faces. Most of oil it meant friendship, learning, shoring, ond togetherness. 21 As the summer ended thoughts of sling- ing freshmen through mud. worching them struggle with the lopsided dummies, ond seeing them sweat in the hot gruelling summer afternoon practices filled the minds of mony upperdossmen as the foot- ball season rolled around. We hod fewer notes in science bur the formaldehyde smell of frogs ond cloms, im- ported grasshoppers ond crowdods hardly mode up for that. We owoited the piglet lobs with greor intrepidotion. The beginning of basketball tournaments, the Christmas donee, holidays ond rogo days were welcome breaks; but finally, we were enveloped in history quizzes ond Shakespearean lines, music con- tests ond trig functions. 31 Fall brings bod weather and winter snows add to the doldrums. It is this rime of the year when special days mean the most and we stepped into them eagerly. Pizza Hut came for the third year in a row and both students and faculty enjoyed Pan Pizza. The first, and hopefully annual, Jog-a-rhon caught the attention of the entire community. The students and faculty ran hard for the money and the district patrons backed the bill adding money to class and club coffers. In a rebuilding year three senior captains, Linda Heidebrechr, Connie Heidebrecht, and Jenny Smiley, helped set and achieve the ream's goals. Eleven victories, two second place trophies and a list of 1st Team All-League selection were among the honors the girls received. The season ended at the Sub-Stare Tournament at Emporia when the girls fell to Williamsburg 04-40. During the season the Teutons opposed many reams who were highly rated in their class. These meetings were often rough, and though seldom suc- cessful, they taught the girls the dedication and desire it rakes to be champions. When the final league statistics were compiled, the following girls were ranked in the Top Ten in the League for the 80-84 season. Though they didn't bring home o crown, they brought home o sense of pride and accomplishment. For years the seniors dreamed of ploying good basketball and showing their opponents that they could ploy the gome. The task become discourag- ing ond it didn't seem to come together. (Were almost sure Mr. Schmidt would hove loved to trade them in ond start over.) Their determination didn't stop. It continued after lunch and after track practices. They went to the YMCA's ond ployed in Summer Leagues. Cooch Goering opened the weight room ond olso worked extra hard preparing the team so that some day this team might realize their dreams and forger the embarrassing moments. Looking or the post year in boskerboll there surely ore fond memories for the juniors ond seniors who shored the court. They worked together toward their goals; shored the vic- tories os well os the defeats ond relished the thought of returning to the Store Tournament. The seniors knew that it hod to be a team effort in order to accomplish the many goals they wonted before they left high school. It was the seniors who remember how their first quarter starred ond they hod the satisfaction of how the lost one ended. The community ond school wos proud of the team ond it showed. The rood to Hoys nor only hod o team bus, but o host of Teuton supporters os well. The 1984 reom will always be chomps in the hearts of many. 42 Junior Varsity TEAM MEMBERS For the second year in a row In a day of growing awareness of physical fitness, seven freshmen were out for basketball. They had neither the size nor the skill to be a decisive team in competition, but they stuck together to develop the fundamentals necessary to be o challenge in future high school years.
