This time in our lives, Has caused us to meet And walk together for a while To learn, as we must, About ourselves and others. To follow where others have trod. But we’re here only a second Then the time is gone. For you see, my friend, We grow from each other, And when we have taught each other All we can teach, And learned all we can, Then we must part, And follow our own voice, To others who can teach us more. Mr. Goering has lived all his life in McPherson County and has taught thirty-eight of his thirty-nine teaching years in the Inman Schools: twelve years at Turkey Creek, twelve years at Inman Grade where he also served as principal and fourteen years at Inman High where he has been principal for the past nine years. Mr. Goering attended college during the depression but still found it possible to participate in athletics, debate, music, and dramatic productions. His father encouraged him to go into teaching and he found he enjoyed it and has made it his life-long profession. He has taught many subjects but his first love is still sci- ence. He said his most memorable experiences have included winning a trip to Russia and winning a scholar- ship that enabled him to study in Germany. Since his trips there he has spent many happy hours sharing both pictures and experiences with his family and friends as well as the students and the public. His plans for the future are indefinite but he hopes to continue doing a little farming” and perhaps more traveling. We know his plans include having time to read the many books he has collected over the years. He is also an avid collector of historical coins and a great quoter of poetry. Mr. Goering has worked in the community and in Eden church all his life and we know his family will enjoy having the opportunity to spend more time with him although we will miss him often. Mr. Goering has the following words of wisdom for all students. So conduct your schooling that when you look back, you won’t wish you hadn't.” Pictured; Mr. Goering in his German class: in his office: Bertha Reimer, Secretary, and the student body a constant responsibility for the principal. This year the yearbook staff and the students and faculty of Inman High School dedicate this yearbook to a man who has been a friend, teacher, and neighbor for two decades: Donald L. Kimble. He is a man who lives a life of honesty and friendliness, a man who loves laughter and telling tall tales, a man who loves to fish and play cupid in the community. He has served Inman not only in the field of education but also in church and in the Lions Club. He has served the nation as an agent in the FBI, a lieutenant in the Navy and an honor mem- ber in FDR's funeral. He has taught twenty-two years to both father and son while raising three children of his own. He will long be remembered as an example to every student who has passed through IHS. His classes have taught us to understand crops, live- stock , machinery, welding, and the value of a dime. He has enjoyed working in FFA and in young farmer's organizations. Inman High has been nis pride and FFA his particular joy since they have won many honors and awards including a State Fair Grand-Championship. He has enjoyed and has looked forward to the FFA Fishing Trips as much as the boys and even more. He has many fond memories of taking the boys to the American Royal, to many judging contests throughout the state, and to various field trips throughout the community. His retirement plans are incomplete but they include fishing, traveling and visiting with his many friends. In short, he is a man with a big heart and stu- dents will forever miss his towering presence in the halls of IHS. YEARBOOK STAFF - BACK ROW, Left to Right: Shivawn Friesen, Mike Esau. Mrs. Gearhart. We found ourselves running the elections we were 'running in' last year. To earn money for our Sneak in the spring to Wichita we had concessions at games, sponsored the chili supper, sold magazines and cushions and held a school dance in January. Swimming, the sauna bath and the whirlpool occupied much of our time, but CHICAGO proved to be a favorite of many as was the fun center which was really fun, especially when we had it to ourselves. I remember 1974; we were juniors then . . . We tried a carnival in the old gym; complete with sponge throws, straw scrambles, cake walks, fonune telling and food. The community and students made it a great success. The annual junior play finally came off although Steve Schmidt really suffered from his football injuries. We hauled in a huge Christmas tree and held a formal dance in the auditorium. It was the first time Inman ever danced around twinkling tree lights. Our class was full of huge plans that year - mainly to make money for the banquet. That even went over without any real tragedies. And somehow - we found the money for that really expensive band. Finally it was our turn to hold the palm leaves aloft. JuiuOtS '75 31 Senior year, graduation and all, here we come! Don't let him make it, Dave. 60 The 1973-74 season got off to a slow start due to injuries to an already small team. After suffering three losses, the Teutons put it all together for their first win over Fairfield. For most of the boys, playing on the varsity squad was a new experience. This reason, along with others, hindered the learning process of working together. Although we were seldom considered a great threat, the Teutons nor- mally gave a team a run for its money. Inman found that its inconsistency was tne defeating factor. A change in offense during the Christmas holidays showed the fans a vastly improved team, and Inman kept pulling closer to each team as the season went on. Their most glorious win came in defeating Nickerson before the home crowd in two overtimes a week after Nickerson stopped league-leading Buhler. Inspired, the Teutons took losses to the Wildcats of Moundridge and Haven. In the final league game of the season, the Teutons handed Hal- stead a homecoming loss to avenge their own. The members showed their new uniforms, black slacks and orange tops, at the basketball games. The slacks; a decided improvement over skirts, were greatly appreciated by the members. Pep Club sponsored Football and Basketball Homecomings and the dances following each event, along with concessions at the Junior Olympics and special favors throughout the year to cheer on the teams. The annual Athletic Banquet, held in the spring, honored all the athletes and pep club members receiving letters, and all other students and managers that made the athletic pro- gram successful. 73 You've come a long way baby.
