Sports, the way an outsider may see them, and sports, the way a student may see them can mean two different things. To an outsider, they mean cheering, excitement, and fun, but to a student they mean long, hard practices with high hopes and many discouragements. Participation in sports means winning with a good attitude and losing with a desire to improve. To parents, teachers, and other people, it means rooting the home team on to victory. What did it mean at IHS this year? For one thing and the most important, the goal of State Champs was worked for all year by the team and the students, and even the town. The team was determined to show the state how BB was played . And that is exactly what they did! By hard work, dedication, determination and the steady support of the Pep Club, the state's top position was secured. Congratula- tions on a job well done, team. To the coaches also goes a great deal of credit. Without a good coach, NO team can do their best no matter how great the talent. Thanks-- from everyone. Mr. Palmer began planning the musical during the last few months of the '65-66 school year. He had a choice of various musicals and finally decided upon The Music Man. Some people tried out for parts during that school year, but most of the parts were auditioned during the summer. During the last month of the summer, we went over parts and chorus songs. Meanwhile, some of the boys on custom cutting crews stud- ied parts while driving combines. Finally, opening night came and everyone's fears and doubts culminated in two hours of performance time. The Music Man was quite a success and everyone is hoping next year's musical, if there is one, will be just as successful. Harold Hill, powerful salesman, is about to invade the Iowa stubborn terri- tory of River City. He has geared his power of persuasion to attempt to sell this Hawkeye community on the idea of starting a boys band. The first obstacle he en- counters is the spinster librarian, Marion Paroo. Although Hill feels he'll have no problem convincing Miss Paroo that his think system of teaching music is most effective, he doesn't allow for the fact that this once, he may be caught at his own game. The parts of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hobbs were played by Ralph Kimble and Sandra Thiessen. Their daughter, Kate was played by Joan Enns. The parts of Byron and Jane Dangerfield were played by Kent Neufeld and Judy Pauls. Other characters included: SENIOR PLAY LIVING TO SERVE Living to Serve was the theme of the F.F.A. The city of Paris lay at the feet of the guests of the Junior Class as they entered the blue and silver cage of crepe paper of the auditorium. The silver of the Eiffel Tower crept through the candle light haze. Mistress of Ceremonies for this occasion was Jill Howard, Junior President, and Kenny Wiens, Senior President, represented the seniors at the speakers table. Immediately following the dinner, the Branches and the Vines' from Hesston College presented a short musical program.
