FUIJTBIILL H. H. Smith, District 'Il Coach of the Year, is being congratulated by Coach Walker in the presence of two outstanding Panthers, Marshall Perkins Ileftj and Norman Greene Irightl. SUMMARY SEI-l5lJN'5 HEIIIIHII District 'I Purple Panthers started in a big way by not bee ing scored on in the first three games. They went on into a successful season with a 7-2 record, losing only to Wel- come and Clinton. The Panthers were the 1953 District 'Il champs. The leading scorer was Norman Greene with 90 points, Greene also lecl the area in scoring. Marshall Perkins was second high scorer on the team with 37 points. Grady Rhinehart, Gerald Lynch, ancl J. C. Brittain were standouts on defense. The team will lose seven members by graduation. They are: Walker Williams, J. C. Brittain, Gerald Lynch, Norman Greene, Marshall Perkins, Grady Rhinehart, Phillip Lake, and Roger Ramey. Inman... ..
