'lv fi gif' GN 179' alfccufive Offi er Lieutenant Commander Brown graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in the class of 1956, where he received prizes for excellence in English and foreign languages. l-lis first duty was as Navigator and First Lieutenant of USS MITSCHER CDL-Zi. In 1958 he served as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to then RADM Claude V. Ricketts, COMDESFLOT FOUR, and participated in the first implementation in the Navy of the now famous People-To-People program. f ll d t on three ships all home-ported in Sasebo Japan The first was as Executive Of- Next o owe ours , , . ficer of USS WIDGEON CMSC-4081. In 1959 he took command ofthe light cargo ship ESTERO CAKL-57. After two years of study in Paris LCDR Brown had a brief tour at the Nuclear Power School, Bainbridge, Maryland before reporting to INGRAHAM in January 1965 as Operations Officer. He relieved as Executive Officer the following summer. LCOR Brown and his wife Diane have two children, Sylvia, 4 and John, 2.
