McClendon For a parent to train a child is to cause the child to grow spiritually and mentally in the way of the parent's choosing. There is a difference between the education of a child and an adult--a parent directs the child's education, but in his own the education is self directed. Child- ren live on borrowed judgment. The Bible gives a vivid description of childhood. It characterizes child life as one that is tossed to and fro and carried about in every wind of doctrine. In short, childhood is minus independent selfhood. The greatest joy and the most sorrows come to us as parents from the suc- cess or failure of our children. we may be well educated and may be rich materially, but if our children are not a success, we consider ourselves a failure. Christ placed a responsibility of rearing our children U in the ways of righteousnessu upon us, and as parents we cannot shlrk the obligations, and as Christians we have a great responsibility for the children of the world, whether our own or those who are less fortunate in their parentage The test of any civilization is the concern which one generation has for the next. And when we as Christians take the youth's welfare to heart we are doing God's work. Child training geared to God's truth and backed up by Divine authority bears the earmark of permanent fruitfulness--even old --. m111 evidence its blessing.

ir 'G U' if f SIFRX Mrs. Gladys McClendon If I had but one admonition to give to the youth of today it would be, HGuard your character for now the world places a great premium on Christian manhood and womanhoodn. A character that has been years in building can, through bad environment and poisonous teaching in the classroom, be written into oblivion. Parents should make every effort to select the type of school that will give the right environ- ment and leadership to their sons and daughters. Modern living conditions have a tendency to rob young people of the forces that build character. Along with the training of the mind there must come the training of the heart and the hand. Young people should be taught the Bible as the inspired word of God, and Christ as the Saviour of man. I feel sure that it depends upon what you have in your heart and hand and how you train it and dedicate it, whether success comes to you or not.
