McClendon For a parent to train a child is to cause the child to grow spiritually and mentally in the way of the parent's choosing. There is a difference between the education of a child and an adult--a parent directs the child's education, but in his own the education is self directed. Child- ren live on borrowed judgment. The Bible gives a vivid description of childhood. It characterizes child life as one that is tossed to and fro and carried about in every wind of doctrine. In short, childhood is minus independent selfhood. The greatest joy and the most sorrows come to us as parents from the suc- cess or failure of our children. we may be well educated and may be rich materially, but if our children are not a success, we consider ourselves a failure. Christ placed a responsibility of rearing our children U in the ways of righteousnessu upon us, and as parents we cannot shlrk the obligations, and as Christians we have a great responsibility for the children of the world, whether our own or those who are less fortunate in their parentage The test of any civilization is the concern which one generation has for the next. And when we as Christians take the youth's welfare to heart we are doing God's work. Child training geared to God's truth and backed up by Divine authority bears the earmark of permanent fruitfulness--even old --. m111 evidence its blessing. ir 'G U' if f SIFRX Mrs. Gladys McClendon If I had but one admonition to give to the youth of today it would be, HGuard your character for now the world places a great premium on Christian manhood and womanhoodn. A character that has been years in building can, through bad environment and poisonous teaching in the classroom, be written into oblivion. Parents should make every effort to select the type of school that will give the right environ- ment and leadership to their sons and daughters. Modern living conditions have a tendency to rob young people of the forces that build character. Along with the training of the mind there must come the training of the heart and the hand. Young people should be taught the Bible as the inspired word of God, and Christ as the Saviour of man. I feel sure that it depends upon what you have in your heart and hand and how you train it and dedicate it, whether success comes to you or not. A l 1' I DICATION Be. ' 1 l I GKUW? z R y Ei NY , xxx , NL, 25 , f f A r Mrs. Hazel Feldkamp Behind the decisions which many in our midst have made for the Lord Jesus Christ lie quiet, prayerful, loving, but powerful messages of one whose life God has used richly for His glory. She is an earnest, sincere Christian with a heart- warming smile and a radiant testimony to the faithfulness of God. Through her consecrated life and joyous testimony, her keenness in discerning the needs of others, her contagious enthusiasm in studying the Word, and her faithfulness in presenting the Word, each of our hearts has been blessed and we feel a deep sense of gratitude to this one through whom God has spoken a blessing. Therefore, with joy and with our highest esteem and our deepest appreciation, we dedicate to our second grade teacher, Mrs. Hazel Feldkamp, this annual of 1958. , Q-xxt: ,:rw.. -7 Www, U Genuine ,f,f - X fm,4.,, , , , uw -ms.. ,W 1 ', W ' H-W v-,W.,.,.fH ,M , ,ff -M ,,., no L w,y 'wwmwwwMtWH- ,, an zwwmmwwwmwf wf .Wf my 'M ' ,,'mMHWn '+V Mr. William G. With Mrs. Wright as our teacher, the class increased with the addition of Linda Barnes, Richard Jensen, Marsha Million and Martha Jeanne Stevens. ' Entering Second Grade with Miss Diller as instructor, our class had grown so large with the addition of Billy Harris, Linda Lou Larson, Roccette Miele, Charles Putnam, and Dan Wallen that we were divided and twelve were sent to Mrs. Feldkamp's room. Mrs. Lindsey inherited us in the Third Grade and we had no new students to greet her. As we entered the Fourth Grade Mrs. Hollingsworth made us welcome along with Ronnie De Lao and Nancy Vanderveer. Entering Fifth Grade me met Miss Metcalf, and with the addition of Billy Burnett, Sherry Hoffman, Andrew Greenawalt, Bruce Marks, Chuck McComb, and Sharon Redburn, she led us through the pitfalls of learning. On the threshold of higher learning, we entered Sixth Grade with Mrs. Mahler to welcome us along with our new friends, Glen George, Dan Grimsley, Marybeth Lane, Robert Miller, and Anna West. At last! Junior High! With those words we embarked upon a new phase of our education and plunged into the Seventh Grade. It was much harder, but with Mrs. Corey leading the way the first semester and Mrs. Mahler the second semester, and spurred on by Mrs. McClendon, Mr. Filatreau and Miss Sunkler, we gained the top. We were accompanied on this trip by Cheryl Antonaros, Kenneth Erann, Pent Christiansen, Robert Fox and Jack Munson. Eighth Grade--Oh, Boy! We made it, didn't we? We had four new students --Gene Higgins, Cheryl Moore, Bob Rentsch and Judy Wallis. Miss Sunkler as home-room teacher helped us get a good start, and with the knowledge and Hknownhown of Mr. and Mrs. McClendon, Mrs. Mahler, and Mr. Miles, we achieved the goal on which we had set our sights some years before. Eighth Grade class officers were Victor Demick as President, Charles Putnam, Vice-President, and Sharon Haden, Secretary. The Student Body officers were Richard Jensen, President, Jack Munson, Vice-President, and Nancy Brones, Secretary. Of the thirty-nine graduates, we had fifteen honor students. We felt justly proud of our class. This class has been active in all things undertaken by the school. It contributed to the building fund to erect the school, purchased the asphalt tile for the first grade room, helped purchase needed black- boards, made contributions for the Church building, tile for the Church floor and Church pews. She immediately began to pack a few essentials need- ed on her expected thrilling trip to Outer Space aboard Explorer VI Captain BILL BURNETT piloted Lady Fairchild on the Airline Helicop- ter to L. A. International Airport where they were met by news photog- rapher KENNY BRANN who was assembling news for the Examiner. As they approached the Information Booth who should they meet but Receptionist CAROL MARKER who had the tickets ready aboard the Jet Airliner. GLEN GEORGE'S voice sounded over the P. A. system, HAll Aboardn. As she hastened forward to the Departure Gate, and ran up the steps of the Jet Airl1ner,.whom should she meet but CHERYL ANTONAROS, Stewardess of the Airline. They were delighted to see each other and Cheryl quickly briefed her passenger of the personnel of the ship. Who should they be but ROBERT MILLER, Pilot, and GENE HIGGINS, Co-Pilot, and Radio-Radar Officer, BOB FOX. Three hours later they disembarked at Cape Canaveral, Florida where Captain LOUISE LaVOQUE escorted Lady Fairchild to Strato-Flight Head- quarters manned by Lt. Commander MIKE ANDREWS. Explorer V was piloted by Com ander JACK KUNSON l.- and Radio Engineer CHUCK MCCOMB. Navigator JERRY McLOUD happily greeted Lady Fairchild as she boarded Explorer V and prepared for take-off. The Electronic screen immediately went into action showing people and places on Earth. The Queen Mary was seen off-shore of England and Private Detective BENT CHRISTIANSEN of Kimberley Diamond Enterprises trailing a suspect. Paris flashed upon the screen with ANNA WEST dis- playing some of the latest Paris creations. At a Swiss Villa we see ANDY GREENAWALT, World Traveler, and his wife, the former JUDY WALLIS. A view of Rome's Unified High School showed English Department Head MARTHA JEANNE STEVENS hard at work. The Holy Land Came intO View and the former teacher sat entranced before the screen as She Saw VICTOR DEMICK and PAUL CURRIE, taking Post-Graduate work at Israeli University before entering the ministry. Saudi Arabia claimed the talents of CHARLES PUTNAM, Electrical Engineer in the Oil Fields. Mission Hospital at Baghdad showed Pediatrician SHARON HADEN with Nurse NANCY BRONES serving on this foreign field. Hong Kong swung into view where BRUCE MARKS, Importer-Exporter of Chinese Silks, was seen as a distinguished businessman. Australia had claimed the services of Ford Agency Owner, DANNY GRIMSLEY, who is very active in Christian Business Men's Committee International. As Explorer V circled above the Islands of the Sea, the University of Hawaii was seen where MARYBETH LANE was noted as Dean of Women, and RICHARD JENSEN was known as Professor of Physics. On the Island of Oahu, SHARON REDBURDI, wife of a Lt. j. g. was living in a U. S. Naval Housing Unit. Approaching the Western Coast of the United States, NANCY VANDERVEER was seen as Teacher at San Jose Bible School. LINDA BARNES was seen in the Sacramento Valley as a Veternarian. DAN WALLEN was a mechanic in bustling San Francisco and RONNIE DE LAO was working as Detective out of San Quentin Parole Board. BILL HARRIS was seen in the Valley Fruit Exchange. The electronic screen picked up a newly designed type of fighter jet and noted it was being piloted by BOB RENTSCH from Travis Air Force Base. ROCCETTE MEILE was seen in a Children's Dentist Office with her little ones being expertly handled by LINDA LARSON. Los Angeles Health Clinic had captured the interests and services of Ex-Ray Technician, CHERYL MOORE. SHERRY HOFFMAN was seen as Surgical Nurse for the promi- nent heart surgeon of Los Angeles and MARSHA MILLION his Receptionist. As Explorer V neared Earth and prepared for landing, Lady Fairchild could not help reflecting for a few minutes ---- just think! Only a few short years ago she had wondered at the value of such Space Travel and now she was to see and enjoy the benefits therefrom. She was proud to havg had g part in the life preparation of these famous people. SSSL PM k , ' t WMWWM-. ,S w 3 i X 'Z' A e Q F , Qi fl ' rx -.A Q ,, ag? x i ,...., 1. 'F rf. H Tm f pt 'F W L . It was a night with a double feature and the Glee Club and a shadow skit completed the enjoyable evening. First came BARGAINS IN HAIRCUTS. Jack Barrett, Cplayed by Andrew Greenawaltl was a typical fifteen year old boy, who had no time for anything but sports and out-of-doors life. Things went along just fine until Mother Barrett Cplayed by Sharon Hadenl entered the picture and insisted Jack needed a haircut. Then is when Jack's faithful buddie Len McAllister Cplayed by Paul Curriej stepped in to lend a helping hand. But alasl Something went wrong and Jack became the victim of havoc. It meant embarrassment for Jack when Len explained to Gloria, Cplayed by Cheryl Antonaresb Jack's best girl, that her boy-friend had been in an automobile accident, and even more misery came to Jack when Dr. and Mrs. Howard Cplayed by Bruce Marks and Nancy Bronesj arrived at the Barrett home. It was a disappointing and embarrassing situation for Jack and Len, but it meant many a laugh for the audience. V' B -' was -e -S e SUGAR-TIME -nf-ma,gM.,-,.. Wilbur, the pint sized atom bomb, fplayed by Victor Demlckl was full of action, fun, humor End resentment toward his two older sisters, Connie Cplayed by Anna Westl and Betty Lou Cplayed by Marybeth Lanel. It seemed like Wilbur got blamed for everything. Poor Wilbur! Little did Wilbur realize that a mere mistake could turn a whole party into disaster. When Wilbur got the car- bonated water and his father's sleeping medicine mixed up, and when all of the guests at Betty Lou's party fell into a deep slumber, and when his Mother KLouise LaVoqueJ and Father fJerry McLoudD got into a heated dis- cussion, and when his two sisters insisted their darling little brother be severely punished, it meant tears for Connie and Betty Lou, humiliation to Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell and a peaceful nap to the seven lively teenage guests whose parts were played by Linda Larsen, Nancy Vanderveer, Carol Marker, Bob Miller, Bob Fox, Charles Putnam, and Bent Christiansen.
