LCDR BORDEN was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Candidate QROCJ Program in August 1955, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. He spent his first five years of service at sea in the Gunnery Department of USS WARRINGTON CDD 8-135, and as Damage Control Officer on the USS BOSTON CCAC 11. It was during his tour on BOSTON that LCDR BORDEN augmented into the Regular Navy. Follow- ing this sea tour LCDR BORDEN served on the staff of Commander, Key West Test and Evaluation Detachment, Operational Test and Evaluation Force, from january 1961 until March 1963 as Assistant Analysis Officer and Division Officer. His tour at Key West completed, LCDR BORDEN re- ported aboard USS WASP CCVS 185 as ASW and Sonar Officer. While attached to WASP, LCDR BORDEN supervised the installation of the ANXSQS-23 sonar system. LCDR BORDEN served on WASP only 15 months before being ordered to US NAVAL Post- graduate School, Monterey, Where he com- pleted the one year Engineering Science course in june I965. BORDEN, Jr. pleted, he reported aboard the USS PROVI- DENCE CCLG 65, Flagship of the Command er, U.S. FIRST Fleet, as CIC Officer. In December 1966, he relieved CDR HAMRICK as Executive Officer of INGERSOLL. Commander T. D. I-IAMRICK OFFICERS Commander Thomas D. HAMRICK en- listed in the U.S. Navy and served on GUAM, at the end of World War II. Upon being dis charged in 1947, he entered Sam Houston State College at Huntsville, Texas where he received a BBA Degree just prior to being recalled to active duty during the Korean War in September 1950. After en- tering the first class of the Officer Candi- date School established by the Navy at New- port, Rhode Island, he was commissioned Ensign in 1951 and served aboard the USS ANTIETAM in Korean Waters. Other duty assignments have been in USS SHANGRILLA USS POINT CRUZ, USS BRAINE, Staff De- stroyer Squadron 21, USS NAVARRO, Staff Naval Forces Marianas, Staff Office of the Secretary of Defense Advance Research and Development Agency, Saigon, Naval Liaison Officer, Sixth U.S. Army in San Francisco, Executive Officer, USS INGERSOLL, and now on the Staff of Commandant Fifth Naval District at Norfolk, Virginia. Among his decorations and awards, he holds the Army Commendation Medal and Secretary of the Navy Commendation for Achievement.
