Develops Life Skills One of the outstanding features of the English Department is that it offers the students courses and activities which remain with them for life. These include the art of reading, speaking and writing. Included along with the regular English classes are such electives as Speed Reading, Debate, Speech and News English. Library Science As the student body advances in numbers each year, so does the efficiency of the library. DELORES STECHER Guidance Counselors are available to students at all times. They assist with post -high school plans, selection of courses, administer achievement and aptitude tests and interpret test results. The important role of the counselor is to help the student toward self direction. Atchison High School is for- tunate in having a social worker. Through her, a closer relation- ship is brought about between the school, the home and the family. The speech therapist and nurse look after the Well-being of the student. MRS.
