' EMMW' On a beautiful September day of 1953, radiant with the sunshine of hope, cheer and joyous promise, the good ship lndustry High School stood at the wharf of a new school year. It was the same old ship that had carried many passengers to safe harbor in the Land of Great Wisdom, but this day was a gala day in its history and many people gazed upon it in wonder as they watched the eleven charming young ladies and seventeen brave young men as we so happily stepped aboard, for it was rumored that we were about to set sail over new and untried waters in a quest for The Fountain of Perfect Understanding. As the 'hip stood at ahcnor on that eventful morning in September, the passengers began to arrive. We were naturally very enthusiastic and asked many eager questions as to the incidents of our voyage and its probably length, and were assured if we were persevering and diligent in our duties we should easily reach our destination at the end of four years. So it was with very hopeful hearts and smiling faces that we steamed away from the wharf and out of the harbor, actually embarked for a four years' cruise on our Voyage of High School Life. We were young and sociably inclined, so it did not take us long to become acquainted with our fellow pas- sengers. Our fears of shipwreck were entirely wiped away in the assurance that so able a staff of seamen had us in their charge. There were, of course, a few cases of sea sickness and various ones were tempted to throw-up algebra, English, and other disagreeable dishes, but the Captain told them they would have to consume these in- digestibles over and over until they were perfect, and so they bravely managed to keep them down. We elected: Ron Spring, Captaing Joyce Aten, Co-Captaing Donna Twidwell, Secretaryg and Burdette Lawyer, Treasurer. Mrs. Sophy Ross, Mrs. Maxine Janes, and Mrs. Maude Kiddoo received the honor of sailing along with us as our ad- visors. During this year, we were very ambitious and industrious. The most important event was our initiation held on homecoming day. ' As we stopped at Sophomore port, two of our crew members left us. Idola Yocum transferred to Rushville High School, and Dale Parker discontinued his voyage through high school. The Sophomore sea was very calm except for a few geometry waves occasionally beating the side of our ves- sel. This year Burdette Lawyer was chosen as Captaing Sterling Sims, Co-Captaing Richard Penington, Secretary: and Brad Fowler, Treasurer. Mrs. Maxine Janes and Mr. Ray Morelli were our advisors. During this year, three crew members transferred to other high schools. Mary Royer went to Colchester High School and Mary and Orville Hale went to the Carthage High School. We gained a new crew member, Joyce Baumgardner, from Northwestern High School. We all arrived at Junior port safely. This sea was more eventful and we were sailing close to another ship. In the Autumn we entertained everybody by putting ou a junior class play entitled, Susie The Siren. Near the end of this voyage we gave the senior crew a prom and banquet, using the theme Stairway to the Stars. This turned out to be a very exciting and successful event. This year, Ron Spring was elected Captain againg Larry Snowden, Co-Captaing Donna Twidwell, Secretary: and Jerry Deener, Treasurer. Mrs. Maxine Janes and Miss Margaret Purman were our advisors. Joyce Baumgardner left us during the year, to continue her education at Bushnell-Prairie City High School. We arrived in good condition at Senior Port. During this voyage, Eldon Heaton was elected Captain: Burdette Lawyer, Co-Captaing Jerry Deener, Secretaryg and Ron Spring, Treasurer. Mrs. Maxine Janes and Miss Margaret Purman were still our sailing advisors. This voyage found many shoals and rocky coasts to steer clear of least our ship be wrecked on the homeward lap. We successfully got past the rocky island chemistry by burning mid- night lights. Between the rough places were calm seas where we enjoyed ourselves very much. We entertained everybody with another class play which was a lot of fun and very successful. We, the Seniors of 1957, ended our four year cruise through high school with a trip which was enjoyed by all. Sponsored by: NEIL HUMMEL CONSTRUCTION CO., 125 East Ludwig Street, Bushnell, Illinois
