l5'a kcfball Summary The Varsrty basketball members rncluded only two semors B111 Pollock and D1ck Cash B111 had a tough luck season but wanted to play very badly Hrs herght helped the team because the Eagles weren t a tall team Drck Cash one of the leadrng scorers of the team had good speed HIS shootmg ab111ty was notrced by everyone we played These two boys w1ll be mxssed when next season rolls around Jerry Swear1ngen was the leadmg scorer of the team Th1S year s vars1ty exper1ence should help Jerry very much next year Bud Sprmg was the other startrng guard Bud and Jerry never lost fa1th and were excellent trarn ers Nelson Snowden was a real hustler and a very good rebounder for hrs srze The sophomores were Danny Gray reserve forward and a fast comer Wayne Heaton a good rebounder and Lyle Swear1ngen reserve center D1ck Snowden and Chuck Teel frlled rn the guard spots and added sprrrt to the games Scott Dean was a regular center who started scorlng and playrng very capable ball rn late season The basket wars gave Scott much needed exper1ence S1nce only two of these members are lost and w1ll be eombrned w1th our young B Squad next year we should w1n some games As the yearbook goes to press the varsrty boys haven t won a game but have had some very close ones The Eagles played a terrrfrc game agarnst Bland1nsv1l1e rn a 51 52 defeat We were beaten by Bardolph 1n a thrrller 60 57 also by Hamrlton '78 67 after leadrng most of the way and scorlng real well The Eagles lost by only a few pornts to Warsaw Bath Bushnell and LaHarpe The boys performed well agarnst a strong Colchester team here at home and also a very strong Astorra team We st1l1 have hopes for a vrctory w1th Avon Dallas C1ty and Meredosla 1n the Regronal to be played In several of these games the boys played well enough to wm but Just couldn t seem to get over the hump B111 Clawson was our manager and he really helped the team a lot 4! 3 zs Front row left to nght Dxckre Snowden Lyle Swear1ngen Wayne Heaton Danny Gray Brad Va1l ChuckT'eel Back row left to nght Mr Ch1ck Marl1n France Rodney Coker Kenneth Brown Rex Bedwell Dwrght Bennett B11lyClawson Manager Our B Squad has played very good basketball all season and grves prom1seofbe1ng a very good team next year and the followrng year The team was composed of freshmen and sophomore boys Wrth three games yet to be played rt looks lxke the B s w1ll end up above the 500 mark for the year whrch IS better than our young boys have done for several seasons Th1s team was never beaten badly durlng the season 4 si f' len' ff ff 'tt .Q Q Q x 'fkff 5 , 3 nl 3 tx P 1 V H s ' 'g A , f 53-71 5 all :ll ln 1 1 l 3 ,X - lg at 5 ra , f I g is-it 1 I x , - g 0 p i . t - 1 lift I K 6' Y S 'Z 1 'h , R 4 s
