Motto, Learning to do, doing to learn, learning to live, living to serve, Officers: President, Bob France, Vice President, Nelson Snowden, Secretary, Sammy Spring, Treasurer, Bill Pollock, Reporter, Kenny Spring, Sentinel, Wayne Clemens, Advisor, Mr. Nelson, The FFA Chapter of the Industry High School has for the past five years operated a small farm, which gives an opportunity to those boys studying vocational agriculture, a practical means of application of the scientific principles of crop production. Through soil testing, fertilizer application, seed treatment, inoculation, rotation planning, weed control, brush control, the use of improved crop varieties, strip cropping, terracing and contour farming, we expect to control erosion and increase the productive capacity of this farm. While a large part of the income derived from the farming operations has been returned to the farm through improved practices, many of the other worthwhile activities of the FFA are financed by this means. fain 2 amemaklx Jymillbd ...,,,,,,..,,.-4-- X ,Nut MMAAS f A First row Elaine Heaton, Dorothy Russell, Margie Snowden, Alleyne Norris, Lrla Jean Smith, Artna Jane Jones, Inez Bozard, Virginia Parker, Mola Lee Smith, Mary Jane Aten, Ioyce Caldwell. Joe was the only end the team had at this time, Sam Spring and NelsonSnowden got early injuries and Elmer Onion, the big full- back from Adair, was lost to the team with a foot injury after 4 games, for the rest of the season. Southeastern had the misfortune of starting against Warsaw, one of the strongest teams in the Conference, and the team took quite a beating but rebounded the next weekend to spill a strong Western Team 19-13. It was the first time since '46 that Southeastern had beaten Western, The next week Southeastern met an undefeated team Avon, and almost beat them. The score was 26- 19. Southeastern again came back to beat Mt, Sterling 26-0, Southeastern was beaten the rest of the way with their injury riddled team: but CICSPUC this f8CI we Placed IW0 men on the All-Conference team. Seniors who won't be around next year are: Eldon Dilworth, All-Conference guard and one of the best line- men in this area, Dilly was a real guard and hustler, Gean Heaton, who had the difficult task of being quarter- back on offense and end on defense, also made the All-Conference team. Gene was a topnotch defensive end an excellent passer, Elmer Onion, who was the team Captain, made honorable mention for All-Conference, Elmer's bull-like rushes were a picture to see and his loss, due to an injury, really hurt the team. Elmer would have certainly made A ll- Conference if the injury hadn't shown up: Marland Marshall, giant tackle, Richard Yaap, a starting end, and Bill Miller, a defensive tackle, will all be missing' when the piglskin hits the air next fall, Returning lettermen are: Juniors, Perry Lotz, Sam Spring, Bill Pollock, and Dick Cash, Sophomores: Ray Frakes, Ge ne Wilhelm, Nelson Snowden, and Wayne Clemens. Freshmen: Wayne Heaton and Danny Gray. Southeastern has the nucleus of a strong team and should do very wellnext season with the above boys return- ing and the following B Squad boys returning: Bud Spring, Dale Mullen, Jim Seitz, Dick Pollock, Morris Sow-- ers, Scott Teel, Harold Parker, Bob Parker, Chuck Teel, Lyle Swearingen, and Harry Mears, Southeastern lost just 6boys this year. The B'Squad beat Macomb, tied VIT, and lost to VIT. Look to next year's Eagles--they're going to be tough. The lettermen managers were Rodney Russell and Phil France. Martin, Richard Allen was the defensive post ace, He was acting captain for half the season games. Eugene Heaton was the most improved defensive player on the team. Marland Marshall, a senior in his first year ex- perience, showed a great desire and interest in the game, Richard Yaap, another senior playing his first year of ball, had a fine attitude and good spirit. Joe Wheeler should really have been called Mr, Rebound, He's a potential scorer plus a fine defensive player, Sam Spring was a hustler and this is the one essential thing that Sam showed over every one else, he was a very aggressive player, He was also a good fighter, Dick Cash is potentially a very fine shot, a good rebounder, and a fair ball handler. Bill Pollock was a late comer as far as the basketball season was concerned, The end of the year Bill helped us with rebounding and his ball handling improved to a great extent, Larry Plate was a very good sophomore prospect, He was our dribbling wizzard and also a fine defensive player for his size. Nelson Snowden, Illinois had their Phillips, Seton Hall had their Davies, St, Johns had their McGuires, Southeastern's play maker is this sophomore boy. Bud Spring was an out- standing sophomore prospect, little but mighty, Dale Carrison developed a hook shot with much accuracy as the season progressed, Dick Walraven has a good fighting heart and an aggressive defense. Dick Pollock, Jim Seitz and Wayne Clemens developed as fine scorers, their defensive play leaves something to be desired, Front row, left to right: Richard Mitchell, Phil Hopping, Scott Dean, Wayne Heaton, Danny Jim Seitz.
