,f I VW f --Q REGIO AL OCCUP - TIO PROGRA The Regional Occupational Program at Indio High School has been very successful since it began. This year the program consisted of eleven differ- ent classes with eight instructors par- ticipating in the program. Four differ- ent classes were offered by Wayne Richards in the area of Agriculture- Horticulture. They were Introduction to Vocational Agriculture, Landscape Design and Maintenance, Horticulture Mechanics, and Horticulture Prac- tices. The students will be able to use the skills learned in the job market on the desert. George Iasso, the instructor in Auto Body, prepares students for entry level skills in welding, metal straightening, finishing and spray booth painting, safe use of auto body tools, and getting a job in this field. Cosmetology is taught by Robert Pursel who prepares students in this area for the State Board Cosmetology License Examination. John Hickman, the instructor in the Medical field, trains students to be nurses aides and geria- tric aides. The Offset Printing and Duplication, taught by Alan Layne, prepares his students for jobs involving printing and duplication processes. They are involved in actual production of materials. Pete Petitto, instructor in the Restaurant classes, prepares stu- dents in restaurant safety and operation of kitchen equipment. The students get their training at the Backroom Res- taurant. Retail Merchandising is taught by Yolanda Coba, and these students get training in retail security, safety. merchandising, cashier-checker, sales clerk, stock clerk and job application skills. Some students in the ROP Pro- gram receive training in Word Process- ing taught by Beverly Dutcher. These students are trained in dictation and the use of transcription equipment to work in the modem office. Student Life 55
