VARSITY TENNIS The 1977 Indio High School Varsity Tennis Team had a very successful year with five letter- men returning and Jim Turpin in his second year as coach. Bob Pohatu, DVL champ 1976, got the team off to a good start early in the season, aided by the young talented freshman, Donald Woods, who brought new life and spark to the well-rounded team. VARSITY WRESTLI G The Indio High School Wrestling Team, led by Mike Morgan and Ed Rivas, glided to a third straight undefeated DVL title this year. Finishing their overall record at 10-2, the Rajah wrestlers also won the El Centro Tournament, and placed third at the Victor Valley Eight-Way. Three Varsity records were broken this year. Indio qual- ified three wrestlers to the CIF finals in Fountain Valley. These were Bruce Otterson, 123g Mike Morgan, 1305 and Ed Rivas, 141. This is the most ever to go to CIF from Indio. Senior Bruce Otterson went on to place sixth in the CIF Finals which is the highest CIP finish in Indio High history. Jun- ior, Ed Rivas broke the record for most pins in a season pinning 20. The Rajah Wrestlers also won DVL on the I V and Freshman Level.
