Music BAND The I. H. S. Band this year was much larger than in previous years and was very good considering the inexperience of a large number of the players. The pep at the football and basketball games was aided to a great degree by the band. The Band Festival was held on May 9 at Valley Junction. The high school bands from Valley Junction, Winterset, Pella, Knoxville, and Indianola took part. ORCHESTRA Our Orchestra Festival was held here April 27 with Valley Junction, Pella, Knoxville and Indianola taking part. This was one of the interesting spots of the year, especially for the girls, because when they! laid eyes on the good looking Pella director their hearts were gone and they all wished they were Dutch women. Any- way their music couldn't compare with Harry L.'s' and that's one thing in our favor. GIRLS' GLTEE CLUB The climax of the Girls' Glee Club work came April 20 at Knoxville. There our Spring Festival was held with the four other schools of the South Central Conference. This was really our reward, although they say you shouldn't work for rewards, for all the hard labor we had- put in every Monday, Wednesday and Friday practicing since school began. During the year Miss Ellis had us all sing solos, and take part in at least one trio. , BOYS' GLEE CLUB The Boys' Glee Club was not organized until after the Christmas vacation. It sang at various organization meetings here at school and around town. It went to the Glee Club Festival at Knoxville on April 27. SIRENA SYMPHONIA A new musical organization was formed in I. H. S. this year, the Sirena Symphonia composed of Betty Porter and Martha Faye Zondervan, violinsg Nina Ruth Hawes, 'cellog Virginia Hall, viola, and Pauline Spangler, bass viol. 9

Durr, Walton, Blake, Overton, Spence GIRL RESERVES The G. R. has closed a very successful year under the 1933-34 cabinet with Nina Gilbert as president and Miss Walton as adviser. All the girls of the school took an active part and enjoyed many rip-roaring' parties under the leader- ship of Ruth Blake. We can all remember the T1-easure Hunt with the Hi-Y, the Little Sister Party, how funny we all looked, with Pauline Spangler and Mary Cook taking the prize as Adam and Eveg the Gym Frolicg and the Mother-Daughter Banquet which climaxes the G. R. year. We also enjoyed many inspirational and clever meetings each Tuesday afternoon, thanks to Pauline Spangler. Our only regret is that we won't be here next year to enjoy the fun again. HI-Y The Hi-Y for the past school year thrived much better than ever before. Approximately 125 boys joined the organization last fall. Due to this fact and the fact that the school authorities saw fit to dismiss school fifteen minutes early on Hi-Y day, the attendance was much better than in previous years. The Hi-Y, in conjunction with the G. R., put on the Treasure Hunt and the Carnival which were both huge successes. About 275 of the 315 pupils in senior high attended the Carnival. The first meeting of the last six weeks was devoted to election of offi- cers for the coming year. Glen Bowles was given the job of being the new president. 8

On the schedule there were some unusually good teams, such as Chariton and Boone. The local high gave both of these teams a good game.
