They went on several exciting field trips. One was to the Fire Station to see the firemen work. They also were able to see where watermelons came from. They went to a watermelon patch! Around Halloween they made pumpkin pies, pumpkin bread, and ice cream. The class went to Pizza Hut where they made their own pizzas. They also made gingerbread men and stone soup. When told that some comments about them were going to be put in the annual, they went wild. The class has had a great year! They participated in many activities such as making posters for the Community Heart Fund Drive at the Care Inn and making posters for Clean-Up America Week. They like things such as helping each other and entering contests. Puppet-making really captured their attention. From poster contests, art contests, flying kites, writing, reading, playing soccer, football, and kick-ball to eating hamburgers and hot dogs, they have been so busy! Their favorite songs have been “Walking on Sunshine,” “It’s A Small World,” and “Wipe Out.” They have enjoyed watching Bill Cosby and The Wonder Years on television. They have been on field trips to Jackson to visit the Agricultural Museum and the Natural Science Museum, but their favorite trip was to the Christmas tree farm at Shaw. Among their favorites in books were Amelia Bedelia and Monkey See, Monkey Do. These first graders did a real good job in their play, The Gingerbread Boy. Mallory Chism CO OC 2 Mrs. Martha Hill described her sec- ond grade class as “bright, kind, and fun-loving.” Their favorite classroom activity was counting money in Math. Their favorite classroom games were Monopoly and Life. Their favorite T. V. shows were “Alf” and “Who’s the Boss.” On the musical side, this class preferred music by such bands as White Snake and Debbie Gibson. On the intellectual side of life, this second grade enjoyed Reading and Math. Two of their favorite books were George Washington and The Secret Cave. These second graders were in high fashion as they came to school in the latest blue jean jackets, all kinds of T-shirts, high-tops, and mini skirts. Their school play was “The Library Circus.” They spent a lot of time practicing to make it a success. Their tour of Florewood River Plantation was fun. They enjoyed the blacksmith shop most of all. This class enjoyed participating in several contests: Spelling Matches, Math Contests, and May Day. Some of their favorite activities were Kite Day, computer games, book reports, and the cheerleader clinic. These second graders liked Rock-n- Roll music as well as Country music. Their favorite musicians were the H Beatles. Pce-Wec Herman, and Kenny Rogers. Their favorite T. V. shows were “The Wonder Years.” “The Cosby Show,” Laugh In,” and Saturday morning cartoons. 0 These students love good home-cooking. They said some of their favorite foods 1 were steak, black-eyed peas, grits, and homemade rolls. Of course they also like . pizzas, hamburgers, ice cream, and brownies. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Stuart Little. On the sporty side, this class enjoyed rainy day games such as Candyland, Battleship. Operation, and Sesame Street. The class play this year was “Happy Birthday. George. During Easter their egg hunt was held inside because of rain. Some of their favorite special days were Kite Day. May Day. and their Mexican Fiesta. They also enjoyed their Christmas party. Each student took part in various contests. Some of these were a classroom spelling bee. art contests, and computer class. These students liked to read funny and realistic books, such as The Wizard of Oz, Romana Quimby, Age Eight, and Freaky Friday. This group of third graders took field trips to the Petrified Forest, Delta State's Planetarium. Delta Pride Catfish, and Lewis Grocer. Favorite T.V. Guess Jeans, mini skirts, and Keds tennis shoes. Sarabcth Lee Everyone in this class agreed that “Growing Pains” was the best in T.V. entertainment. In the reading field, they liked the more realistic books. Field trips to Delta Catfish. Lewis Gro- cer. Petrified Forest, and the Delta State Planetarium added a lot of excitement to the year. MRS. They have been ex- tremely successful in many competitions. They have varied interests. As for contests, twelve out of eighteen students won one or more ribbons in the I.A. Art Contest. Five students placed in the I.A. Science Fair. Eight students participated in the Math Olympiad. Some of their activities were May Day, Kite Day, and “Just Say No” to Drugs. They also learned to make ice cream without a freez- er. They made homemade doughnuts and butter. Their class play was “Sis Boom Bah.” The class had several parties like Valentines with Travis's special valentine! The shoes to have were the Nike hi-tops and Keds. The favorite jewelry’ was silver charm rings. The fa- vorite color of the class was blue. Their favorite class was P.E. with Coach Hill. Mrs. Pitt’s 1987-1988 fourth grade has been a class of Guess jeans, NIKE Air tennis shoes, ‘Growing Pains,’ and Olympic games. The girls cheered the boys as lass play. Will Jennings displaying his talents in the MPSEA art contest, Thad Burkhaltcr voicing his abilities as he captured the Spelling Bee title, and Ryan Strawbridge astounding the judges at the Science Fair. Many accomplishments were achieved ... ‘Just Say No’ balloons released as the kites took on the gusts of wind making their appearance on Kite Day. Who knows, talking to every Sunflower countian over WNLA radio could end up in a Top 40 Countdown fea- turing Mrs. Pitts and the kids.” To conclude our trip through the 1987- 1988 fourth grade class of Mrs. Kay Pitts, we must not leave out just a few of the favorites in the class ... Christy Riddle who by now seems to be a member of the fourth grade, the song ‘Wipeout,’ Henry Huggins, Dexters and Keds, watching “Spacecamp” and “Ann of Green Gables,” and last but certainly not least... P.E., NOT Math!! REMEMBER: If you just asked, “where in the annual is Mrs. Pitt’s fourth grade class at? If you happened to visit during class, you would see them wearing knee-long shorts, acid washed jeans, mini-skirts, T-shirts, bows, or hi-tops in a variety of colors — red, yellow, blue and purple. These students have enjoyed playing a num- ber of games during school. Their favorite tames were War, Junior Trivia, and Four quare. During class they have had a lot of fun working on their Me Booklet, Poetry Booklet, State Booklet, and Recipe Booklet. Carcn Coleman Ginger Duease This has been a very argumentative group. The subject that has caused the most contro- versy is “Girls can do anything boys can do.” During debates, those who chose to not pay attention may be asked if they were “lost in space.” Some other familiar sayings used as at- tention — getters were “Alert!”, “Put your antennas up!”, and “This is not a party school!” Wes Gramling Shane Harrington Jamie JefTcoat 32 -TH GRADE • MRS. They have had three winners in the Math Olympiad, two winners in the Ala-La-Miss Math Contest, fourteen ribbons in the Science Fair, a first place winner in the DAR Essay Competition, and participants in the Overall Spelling Bee. As for the girls, they also en- joy cheerleading. This year they participated in the cheerleading clinic, and thev all said that it was lots of fun! Will Barnwell This sixth grade class has seen and done it all! In fashion trends that is. Their favorites are the ever famous miniskirts, Keds, Dexters, and Garfield boxers. The fun part though was helping to clean everything up. They all like the snow we got this year, but they dis- liked all the stuffy noses that went with it. They all remember when a certain coach made all the boys wear socks. How about Katherine's laughing attack at Pizza Inn ... The dead mouse in the garbage can .. . The class collected for a needy child at Christmas time. In their study of foreign countries, they had tea at the Antique Mall when studying England.
