INDY Indianapolis was the back-drop for our educational experiences at Indiana University School of Medicine. Some of us had four years to experience the city, while others had only two. And for those who grew up here, it was simply “home. There is no doubt that the night spots were the most popular attrac- tions. We needed places to vent the frustrations and hostilities that built up during those long days. The beginning years saw us in Broad Ripple and Cast- leton frequenting such spots as the Vogue. Rosa Carona’s. TGI Fri- day's. The Corner Wine Bar. and Pawnbrokers.” Although these spots were and are still popular, a new scene emerged that was a little closer to the medical cen- ter. The revitalization of the downtown area offered many new places to relax. Names that will live in infamy in- clude. Sports. Ike Jonesey's. Shaboom's. the Elbow Room.” and The Common Market.” The new downtown also provided us with a multitude non-party places to spend our free time.” The opening of Union Station was probably one of the best things that could have happened. IUMC Ahh, the Med. Center! Over half of us were lucky enough to spend all four glorious years there, while the other half spent only two. Who could forget those nice, plush, comfortable chairs in MS 326? Many of us still sport scars from blisters acquired there from wig- gling to find a comfortable position. Those first few months were spent learning the other students' names that were next to you in the alphabet. Any hope of finding a spare moment of free time was quickly snuffed out by Micro and Biochem. We soon learned that Dr. Bauer did indeed create apathy! Anatomy. Histo. Physio. Neuroana- tomy and the ever-popular Psych soon followed. The philosophy of P = MD was very prevalent. There were those who moved into MERP or Butler Library for the duration. Class notes made this way of studying very tempting. Intra- murals added a great outlet for pent- up emotions. Right: All work and no play makes Jack a very thin boy!!
