'w ' ki hi HOW ENTHUSIASTIC we were, yet so quickly disenchanted by: crowded parking lots, dry as bones lectures, equally dry texts, and the routine of the medi- cal sciences. 2 iTwyi REMEMBER How important we thought Gross Anatomy was? TOP, Eric Shulz and Richard Pope demonstrating the fin- est in disection technique. MIDDLE LEFT, two of the most frequently studied pages in our controversial anat- omy book. MIDDLE RIGHT, a happy anatomy group just discovers the sella turcica. The lucky students, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, are Terry Doeler, Bruce Dodt, Mary Kay Dineen, and Fred Doepker, BOTTOM, Andy Mar- ciniack assumes the freshman medical student salute. 3 TOP LEFT, Medical Science library at exam time. BOTTOM, Dr. Minton holds another para- sitology class spell-bound. TOP, Carletta Vanderbilt finds that V. A. patients really are dogs. MIDDLE LEFT, did you notice that form 022 had to be turned in by April 2 if you plan on graduating? MIDDLE RIGHT, Norman Stump asks his wife, Now what do you have to make hair grow on my chest? BOTTOM, fly breeding area for L. U. M. C. 5 HOW WE dreaded exams! RIGHT BELOW, Dr. Carters parking place. (The pictures across the top are progres- sively higher magnifications of the Bursa of Fabricius. As pictured here journal clubs, informal lecture groups, and independent scientific research provided needed in- tellectual stimulation. In Addition, emer- gency room moonlighting brought pay as well as experience. The South Side Clinic traded community service for the oppor- tunity to learn from patients. ABOVE: David Bcauh and Jeff Barrett at the monthly National Lampoon Journal Club meeting. LOWER LEFT: Iia Byers demonstrating the finer points of sigmoidoscopy at the G. I. seminar held in the home of Jack Deckard. ABOVE LEFT: Doctors Dcvereaux and Smith listen at- tentively as Jim Linderman gives his award winning lecture on Exophthalmos in Graves Disease. LEFT: John Paris with subjects Bob Newman and Jim Linderman at work on an important area of medical research. The results of their work will soon be published in the New England Journal of Medicine under the title-Comparison of Millers and Schlitz in Production of Diuresis by ADH Suppression. 21 Sports The class of 1976 members participated in many sporting events, some in orga- nized city and intramural sports, some in sandlot games and some as armchair coaches. The highlight of the sporting year, the Med-Law football game was won this year by these fighting physi- cians- the IUMC Idopaths. ABOVE LEFT-The Idiopaths during a rugged training session. ABOVE RIGHT-Deadly Don Shellborn-a nickname earned on the rugby field, not on the wards. ABOVE LEFT-Andy, son of Mary and Bill Edwards, living proof that mcd students don't always study. MIDDLE LEFT and RIGHT-1UMC supper club, one of Indy's fine rcsturants.
