After a year or so in the dorms, many students decide that dormitory living is more of a hassle than a con- venience. So after v eeks of looking and phoning landlords durmg the Spring semester, usually an opening turns up for Fall. Off-campus houses, owned by local residents, furnish students with a unique living experience. It is a type of living which a student lives away from school and in a family-type situ- ation. The houses give students more privacy than apartments or dormi- tories. If a student doesn ' t particularly like cafeteria food, he can eat what he chooses to cook in his own kitchen. Offering a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, off-campus houses serve as a pleas- ant type of living to lUP students. 25
