Social Studies Man has learned, though, thot the language barrier is not the only one which exists in his environment. In this stage of his development the student realizes that he has become port of a world full of economic problems and social issues. Having learned as a child to be a good citizen in the home, he now explores the cultural concepts and institutions of a larger society. He studies carefully the duties expected of citizens in other cultural groups. Then, judging thought- fully, weighing methodically, and speculating widely about the functioning of these organizations, he be- comes his own historian. Home Economics The nucleus of a society is the home. It is here that basic patterns of governnnent, co-operation, responsi- bility, and leadership are cut. When the material is stretched, wide seams ore left so that alterations may easily be mode as the weorer outgrows the garment. As he moves through family life to school life, to church life, and finally to public life, his experience stretches him. Good patterns need not be changed. The style of the garment is still good if it was cut right to start with and if room was allowed for growth. He can move with grace, all parts free to walk with his fellows, keeping time to the tune. 1 V ; L J» h .k.
