Thus, as the class of 1953 meets and passes that certain day in May, you come to realize that the last four years have left you with a purpose in life. The long-awaited time when you are on your own and can begin to make your mark has finally arrived. You have a job to do. When we graduated from high school, we were sure we were grown up, but now that freshman customs, proms, Visual Education projects, and Swing Out are past, you at least, know better. College has given you the measure of steadiness and understanding that you lacked. It has given you a job to do. After graduation, you no longer receive . . . you will do your best to give. You will give learning and understanding, and in a way, life itself, to the children you teach. It is no easy task, but it can be a happy one. We hope we can do as well as you. We who follow you dedicate this book to the wonderful class of 1 953. We ' re happy to follow in your footsteps. DEDICATION
