' Dedication... Our shadows oft may fall where we may never be. Dreams are like shadows, and in the light of the present, cast strange patterns against the common backgroimd of our campus. Our dreams for the progress of Indiana University combine the best from the past, the challenge of the present, the bright hope of the future. As those who came before us built on the shoulders of the past, so may we, the Class of 1950, pause at the halfway mark of the century to note our progress, reckon our debt to the past, and resolve that Frangipani ' s flame shall bum ever more brightly as we turn it over to the keepers of the future. To this spirit of progress which binds us together for all time, we dedicate our mid-century Arbutus.

Our l.U. has traveled a long road since the Class of 1900, the naughty- naughts, put away theii- mandolins, packed their $10 graduation suits in moth balls, and passed from their beloved Alma Mater into the golden opportunities of the Twentieth Century, turning o er their heritage to classes to come. We have grown, mushroomed, ad anced — treading in their footprints. The si.xteen couples in their . hnried Folks Club would stand aghast before Wood- lawn Courts and the Uni ersity Apartments. Classes have reached audience- size proportions, often meeting in auditorium spaces. Om President flies to Germany. A Kinsey wing and a Mueller wing have been drafted in the archi- tectrn-al plans of the proposed $3,000,000 Life Science Building. The School of Business was conceived and has grown to rival the largest school in enroll- ment. The largest Audio-Visual center in the countr ' furnishes students and classrooms, and yes. e en Arbutus readers, with photographic material. Nation- ally, the Uni ersity has been rated the fastest growing in the country. But unlike Topsy, Indiana Uni ersity has not just growed. It has carefully expanded according to the master blueprints of farseeing architects over whose shoulder we peer as we turn from the past to en ision an Indiana University present and future — THE BEST!
