Homecoming; Ajourney Far Away Homecoming is the first oppor- tunity of the year to get involved in ISUW Jennifer Sandlin jumps for joy. - Photo by Tamara Adwell Homecoming 10 It was a time of magic, laughter and hard work as students embarked on a Journey Far Away for the annual Homecoming celebration. An action- packed week gave students the first opportunity of the year to et involved in ISU, said Brenda Calla an, event's co-coordinator. The excitement that bubbled over during the week's festivities was almost contagious as the planning and preparation that went to the biggest event of the year began to materialize. From the Sycamore Sillies to the parade, there was an event that would capture the enthusiasm of virtually every student. The week began Oct. 11 with the Sycamore Sillies. Holding true with this year's theme, Denise Cauble and Steve Fukumitsu coordinated games from other countries. In two rounds of competition, 22 teams tested their skills in games such as Siamese Soccer. Pi Kappa Alpha placed first with Sigma Alpha Epsilon capturing second and Burford and Rhoads Halls taking third place. Tuesday featured the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and Bachelor-of-the-Year. Andrea Frazier, Brownsburg junior, and Tracy Black, Indianapolis senior, were chosen to reign over Homecoming festivities. Becoming Homecoming Queen 0r B.O.Y. is a popularity contest. Students active in the University and liked by their peers are the most likely to win, Linda Eldred, Homecoming adviser, said. Why have you I become active in Student Life? Beth McKee, Terre Haute senior: Being a commuter, I needed an outlet to express myself on campus. Brenda Jones, West Terre Haute sophomore: My sister motivated me. Linda Eldred hassociate dean of Student Lifeh helped too. Bob Gibbons, Plainfield senior: Because there's more to an educatioh than academics. Nancy Gilbert, Flora, junior: My sister had been on the Homecom- ing Steering Committee, and I thought this was a good way to make a con- tribution to the campus.
