Kenny Tussey considers sneaking a right turn while taking drivers ed. Karen Satterlee, Mike Stultz, Joni Stout, and James Kemp lead the spirit chain around the bonfire Thursday night before homecoming. Wanna lick? Patti Dillingham asks while attending the State Fair during the first week of school. Richard Kite, Darin Beer, and David Bougher enjoy their swim in Caskey gym. Swimming is open to all students every evening 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

which will stand for many years. Yet inside a two-year remodeling project has renewed it for present and future use. The old wood was refurnished and bright new colors and lighting were added. Not only have physical surroundings changed but classes have been added or reorganized to fit the time. The newly organized computer class provides now for our present and future needs. Changing life roles have tempted some boys to sign up for home economics, while the new nursery school program in primary unit provides much needed early training for two-and three-year old deaf children. Because of the large influx of students deafened by rubella years ago, the mode of communication changed. The school adopted the policy of total communication, and sign language appeared in the classrooms. This large class, now seniors, along with those ahead and behind, show the world we are different yet the same. Regular academic classes are here to provide students with a high school education leading to a diploma. We have sports in which everyone can participate, playing against both public and other deaf schools. Although we live in the dormitory, we have activities for the students such as bowling, parties for special occasions, organizations and Angela Barnes moves into her new room on the Registration Day. Muscles and patience are required.

Melvin Squire, longtime math teacher but retrained computer instructor, helps Anna Hoppenjans with the program in class. more. And like all teenagers everywhere, some students fall head over heels in love. As this year comes to an end, ISD will again change with the times. Because of new vaccines, rubella in no longer a large factor of deafness. The enrollment at ISD will drop. Although fewer teachers and students will be involved, they will continue to strive for improvement and up- to-date education of deaf students so that they may better compete in a quickly changing world.
