Be The Best Wrestlers ended successfully with a 6-4 dual meet record and 2nd, 4th and 5th in tournaments. Several boys earned recognition for their efforts. Andrew Metz continued his athletic success by capturing 3 regular season tournament championships and a sectional championship. He lost a controversial 7-6 decision to Warren Central ' s Bary Bacon, ranked 5th in the state, during the regional competition. Rick Hancock became the first person to ever win 4 consecutive championships in the Midwest Deaf Tournament. James Leaf also won the Midwest Deaf Tournament, the Blind School Invitational and 2nd in the state sectional. Eddie Bertram finished with an 18-3 record winning the Midwest Deaf, Park-Tudor Invitational, and advancing to regional competition. Both coaches say congratulations to these fine young men and a big thank you to the matmaids who brought spirit to the meets. jally Shortz catapults the ball toward the net luring the St. Rita game. Winning 3rd place at CSSD in Kansas and having Kim Mann and Tracey Parker named to the CSSD All Star team highlighted our season. During the game against Missouri for 3rd place, we played terribly at first. At the end of the 3rd quarter we trailed 24 points. Then we began our comeback. We outscored them 26 to 4. We were tied at the final buzzer 50-50. From that point, I expected to win and we did 56-51, said Coach Reifel. The Comeback Was Terrific Girls Basketball Team; Front Row: Lisa Chamberlain, Krissie Loy, Regina Kyle, mgrs; 2nd Row: Peggy Steinberger, Patty Werth, Tammy Austin, Kim Mann, Denise Stiles, Yvonne Ackles, Sally Shortz; Back Row: Donna Webb, Gina Trowbridge, Tracey Parker, Coach Ann Reifel, Carie Scales, Davanna Beeson, Rhonda Fischer. During the Heritage Christian game. Coach Ann Reifel tells Donna Webb that she wants 14 more points. Rhonda Fischer (54), Sally Shortz (10) listen. Our team ' s greatest strength was our defense. We often out- rebounded or out played the opponents. Shooters who can shoot anywhere beyond 10 feet from the basket was our weakness. Junior, Donna Webb, a well- known thief on the court stole the ball an average of 4.2 times a game and her shooting average was 9.1 points per game. The most valuable player was Kim Mann and the most improved player was Davanna Beeson. Steve Brown watches the umpire ' s call as he misses the ball that strikes him out. Baptist High catcher returns the ball to the pitcher. Experience Was The Key It was a winning season this year for these baseball players. They improved much since last year. Coach Catt says, I expected another good year this year because of the many returnees from last year and the experiences they brought back. The highlight of this season was winning the MISC Tourney and having a winning season ... The most difficult opponent was Baptist High. Our team won easily, 12-0, at the first of the season. But during the MISC Tourney, they had to hustle to win 6-4. Then they also beat Bethesda Christian 11-4 in their final game of MISC Tourney. Their greatest strength was having a good pitching staff; Dwight Casler did an outstanding job which helped the team. They all played good defense. Front Row: Richard Dettmer, Jerry Fischer, Jamie Leaf, Brian Bippus, Dwight Casler, Mike Stultz. 2nd Row: Bobby O ' Dare, James King, Scott Voltz, Steve Brown, Mark Taylor, Jeff Voyles Back Row: Coach David Catt, John Hedge, Darren Frageman, Mark Aldrich, Keith Custer, Brian Hartwell, Dale Loper, Mgr.
