We Are The Champions! Our opening win over Park Tudor, winning the CSSD championship and estabUshing a 13 game winning streak were the highUghts of the season. Defense, rebounding, teamwork, good spirit and the right attitude for hard work helped break the school ' s record, 17 wins in a single season and 13 wins in a row. The CSSD championship was a very satisfying one for ISD since we had been in the frustrating position of 2nd or 3rd place for three years. The boys dedicated the first part of the season to prepare themselves for the tournament. They prepared themselves well and were obviously the best team at the tournament, says Coach Robert Kovatch. Forwards Mike Stultz and Scott Voltz, and Center Daric Brye made the 1983 CSSD All Star team. We would not have been such a strong team if Kelly McKee, Mike Penn, Mark Pearcy, Jim Hinders, and Larry Wilkins had not worked so hard against our starting five every night in practice. Often they were harder to practice against than some of our opponents, replied Mr. Kovatch. Scott Voltz (34), John Hazelett (40), Mike Stultz (44), and Brian Hartwell (32) stand ready to rebound the ball during the Wisconsin game. Jimmy Hinders is guarded by one of Lutheran ' s players during the ISD-Lutheran game. ISD won 71 to 43. 42 During the ISD-Tri-High game, Scott Voltz concentrates before shooting his foul shot.
