Nat ' l Champions Win Again! This exciting season ended with 7 wins and 2 loses. For the second straight year 29 ISD Orioles won the National Deaf Championship! Announced by Deaf American, this award is based on comparison of records, schedules, and opinions of Deaf School coaches and scouts of the American Athletic Association of the Deaf. We defeated M.S.S.D. which excited everyone who watched the game. Coach Ernie Grubb said, We knew M.S.S.D. was strong but we welcomed the chance to get nose-to- nose with them. Winning that game was a thrill to the coaches, the team, and the fans. Andrew Metz established several records — 1 year rushing — 1598 yards, career rushing — 4077 yards. This also is a national deaf prep record for a career. Metz was chosen for the UPI All State 1st team, AP All State 2nd team and Bloomington-Herald Telephone Class A All State Team. Captains Andrew Metz — National Deaf Player of the Year, Scott Voltz and Mike Stultz were named to the All American team. Steve Brown received honorable mention.
