Bryan Manship has wet shoes because Jody Trojan pushed him into the lake at Brown county during Jr. NAD camp. They Proinote Leadership The Junior National Association of the Deaf is the oldest organization on campus. Established Nov. 14, 1967, this organization introduces its members to the basic understanding of youth leadership of the National Association of the Deaf. Joining nourishes adult development is their slogan. It encourages young deaf people to join any organization to develop themselves into better adults. It promotes the future deaf world by teaching and working with deaf youth of today. I like to be involved with Jr. NAD because it helps me to stand and speak candidly about myself. Everyone should learn how to be a leader says Andrew Metz. Andrew Metz as Thomas Gallaudet shows Patti DiUingham, Alice, how to spell hat in the sand. On Dec. 9, 1983, in the auditorium we celebrated Thomas Gallaudet ' s birthday with a short play given by the Jr. NAD. In the fall Shanon Maple let Dwight Casler eat one donut for Teacher ' s Appreciation Day. They Are Our PR People The Student Council was reestablished in 1980 to help understand the government system in school and have better rapport with adults. We have set up three committees to advance toward this goal: administrators-faculty-student committee, cafeteria committee, and activity committee. The Student Council ' s purpose is not only to teach leadership but it helps everyone to solve the problems, said James Kemp, the president of Student Council. I was very proud of our students ' behavior during the visit of MSSD students in October. They gave the MSSD students tours of our campus as well as a welcome party, said Ms. Summerlin, Student Council sponsor. For teacher ' s appreciation day, some students surprised the teachers by giving them delicious, red apples and serving orange juice and donuts in the teacher ' s lounge. Teachers were very impressed! Student Council Representatives — Front Row. Sgt-at-Arms, John Hazelett, Beetle McClendon; Secy, Arlene Downing; Pres. Students Are Involved Girls ' Club and Boys ' Club are both organizations whereby students learn about themselves, about their future, and perform services for the community. The Girls ' Club was established to help girls develop desirable habits, attitudes, interests, personality and character patterns. The girls work to understand many problems involved with being deaf. The girls who participate are growing in the different areas of leadership, merchandising, and assisting others. They discuss their hope for suitable jobs or positions in the deaf community when they complete their educational program. They sell pizza every two weeks on Sunday in the dorm and also nachos with cheese or sauce. With the money earned, they go camping or to Kings Island in May. The Boys ' Club also helps to establish good leadership. Their project is to help the needy people when they need help. The boys are motivated to learn and work, including their sponsor, Sei-Tu Taylor.
