Changing As Society Does The Vocational department is changing. Before, only girls took home economics and typing, but now boys are also taking these classes. Our life roles in society are changing. Home economics is not just for girls. If you stop and think about it, says Mrs. Bauer, sewing teacher, all the great chefs and famous fashion designers are men, with few exceptions. This is why we should encourage more boys to take Home Ec. It is so much more than just cooking and sewing. Mrs. McCoy, typing teacher, also comments that more boys are entering her class. Everyone agrees typing is important for college work, for office careers, for using the TTY, for personal enjoyment, for computers and letters. Starting next year I will be getting students who have already had experience with key- board because of computer class. This should speed up the learning process in typing. Lionel Jiminez learns sewing, a new option boys have taken. Learning how small motors operate, John Willoughby and Kenny Jackson repair a fan during metal shop. 19

Michelle Simpson and Mike Penn learn typing skills to use in the future. In Trowel Trades class students learn basic skills for laying brick and block.
