Those of us privileged to be at Tech during this transi- tional period will be challenged and stimulated by the demands of this year of destiny. And yet, the phenomenal growth of Indiana Technical College, resulting in the purchase and the approaching move to our new campus, in the improvement of our ac- celerated engineering program and in the addition of standard, four-year courses in science and mathematics, is only the inevitable effect of years of painstaking plan- ning on the part of the administration, faculty, students and alumni. Many wise and patient people have brought us to this time of fulfillment. I am glad that you are here to share — and bear — it with me. Archie T. Keene. July 31, 1956 MR. ROBERT C. The train- ing at Tech includes thorough instruction in mathematics, general science, and engineer- ing drawing. The course offered at Indiana Technical College makes possible a career in design and production of all types of air- craft, the development of airports, experi- mental development, and sales. A graduate may enter any field, from research to testing, from drafting to production. The ever in- creasing advances in this field include rocket- ry, jets, and the new satellite, and present new challenges to the engineer of the future. BENJAMIN L. One of the newest branches of engineering. Chemical Engineering, has advanced rapidly. Practically all industry in some stage of proc- essing, development, or manufacturing, must depend upon men with a knowledge of chem- istry. Today there are highly specialized and diversified fields such as Gas, Metallurgical. Ceramics, and Petroleum. Because of its be- ing the basic technology underlying the de- velopment and operation of virtually all in- dustry, Chemical Engineering will realize even greater growth in the years to come. TOD B. To the Electronic Engineer is attributed outstanding develop- ment in such realms as guided missiles, radar, color television, electronic computers, radio communication, and atomic energy. The Elec- tronic Engineering curriculum is planned to specialize a fundamental knowledge of elec- trical engineering to scientific application in the field of electronics. RALPH S. Consequently, Mechanical Engineers tend to become specialists in chos- en branches. Therefore, the student is given a thorough background in the basic sciences. This field is very extensive, for practically every manufactured article requires the serv- ices of mechanical engineers both in the de- sign of the machine on which it is made, and the factory operation itself. The Boiler, presented by Dr. Planck in 1949, has been in Tech ' s possession only 2 years. Tech had possession the first year but then lost it to Tri-State for four straight years. In 1954-55 the Warriors brought it home again. When the Bulging Boiler went on the line on January 31 at the Concordia Gym, the Tech Warriors had very little trouble in retaining possession, as they downed Tri-State for the second time this sea- son, 86-70. Although the team con- sisted of about two-thirds rookies, the boys did a fine job. A rainy season added to the handicap of the boys with even one game being played during a snow storm (Ander- son ) . But for a few breaks, it could have easily been a 7 won — 4 lost season as Tech dropped four games by one run. However the season had its bright spots too. At the first game of the season, Joe Tosches, the first man up, hit the first ball pitched for a home run to start things off right as Tech won the opener from Franklin 12-2. Tech also laced Huntington by a 16-1 score. Neff finished the season with a .406 bat- ting average followed by Tosches with .344, Balckwell with .323, and Roarhig with .313. Its fun to find facts in the Library, where Mr. Fairman, the Librarian, helps students locate an assortment of facts needed for technical reports, themes, and designs. Some twenty-five students, coupled with several interesting school staff members, partici- pated in shooting on two nights weekly. Several inter-collegiate postal matches were programmed and, although one group was not very successful, a lot of fun was had by all. The club also affiliated with the Allen County Shooting League and the participa- tion herein resulted in a different story! A series of shoulder to shoulder matches was programmed and our group came off with second place in a six team league. This year has seen the reclassifying from student status three of our best shooters. Among its varied activities during the past two terms were lectures by practicing Audio Engineers, a High-Fidelity sound demonstration, a field trip to the local tele- phone company and an Audio Workshop session, during which Professor Carson as- sisted members in running tests on equip- ment they had built.
