My prayer and hope today Is that all of you engineers in training and all of you graduates may, in time, achieve a ripe maturity. I trust that you will have enough of success to make life rler-sant, and enough of failure to keen It sharp and zesty. May you earn a full measure of integrity so that your life will build into a proper edifice; enough of spirituality to make your life meaningful; love, to bring you fulfillment. God save you from the mean — and -particularly from the complacent. May you ever realize that Man, no matter how humble. Is essentially a noble creature; and that Man, no matter how grandiose, is often an erring and ludicrous creature. As engineers you need sharp, uncluttered minds. As men you need understanding hearts. With God ' s help, may you earn both. Sincerely yours, ArcHle T. President AEX:w AT HOME WITH THE KEENES Standing, left to right: Mr. Donald Borger, Mr. Paul E. Mr. Richard Dermer. the academic commiTTEE MR. ROBERT C. RUHL Dean MR. CLYDE MELTON Associate Dean in Charge of Special Subjects RERonnuTicflL cnGinecRinG Aeronautical engineering has assumed a defi- nitely important place in present-day manufactur- ing, transportation, and communication. The course offered at Indiana Technical College makes possible a career in design and production of heavier-than-air machines, the development of airports, research, experimental development and sales. Aeronautical subjects proper are attempted only after the student is well grounded in the fundamentals of mathematics, engineering draw- ing and general science. This sequence of subjects carries the student logically and smoothly upward through general engineering requisites into aero- nautical problems — and graduation. WALD O ALBERT BEN DOW 12 mecHflnicflL EnGinccRinG The Mechanical Engineer is not a machinist, a mechanic, nor an engineman. Nor is he a trades- man. He is all of these and more. He is a scien- tist, a mathematician, a draftsman, a designer, and an originator as well as an efficiency expert. The young man who has become efficient in the broad fundamental principles of mechanical engi- neering can, in a short time, make himself indis- pensably valuable in any one of hundreds of types of industry. PAUL JETTINGHOFF DR. IVAN A. PLANCK FRANKLIN BAYHA 13 I.UU80 K Ca 40.W Sc b Sr .S7.B3 ■' «Ra a 5r%L B CHEmiCflL EnGinCCRIHG Because the applications of chemistry are so numerous and diversified, even the most casual examination will reveal the fact that virtually all industry in some stage of processing, develop- ment, or manufacturing, must depend directly upon men with a knowledge of Chemistry. This has given rise to specialization in the field of Chemical Engineering, so that there are today highly specialized and diversified fields, such as Metallurgical, Gas, Petroleum, Ceramics, and many other engineering phases. Tech ' s capable department proudly meets this challenge. MICHAEL BATZ DR. DAVID DICKINSON GLEN R. PATRICK 14 ciuil e n g i n e e r i n g Civil Engineering is the oldest of the engineer- ing professions and may well be considered the parent of most of the other more or less spe- cialized phases of Engineering Science. From Egypt ' s pyramids to the George Washington bridge we see monuments to Civil Engineers who have pitted their skill against Nature and her tre- mendous forces. DONALD BARRY ROBERT C. RUHL WILLARD STEVENSON 15 ELECTRICAL EnCMEERIIlG The Electrical Engineer must be familiar with his field, including the mechanical as well as the elec- trical aspects, from the toaster that burns toast in the morning to the gigantic electric furnaces. He must know how to select, design, work out eco- nomics and production, or replace a fuse. He is the master mind in the field of communications and today ' s modern automatic telephone with its instant and accurate service is a monument to his inventive genius and painstaking skill. RICHARD DERMER ARTHUR PRICE CHARLES COOK MAURICE SIMMONS EUGENE MONTOYA EDWARD A. WHITE RADIO 6 n G I n E £ R I n G The Radio Engineer is a highly specialized branch of Electrical Engineering and therefore the students studies such things as Electricity and Magnetism, Direct Current Circuits, Direct Cur- rent Machines, Alternating Current Circuits and Alternating Current Machines, with laboratory work, Electronics and Electrical Design as a basis for and a mear: of amp ificatior and :ce; a za- tion of Radio Engineering sub ec after. Upon graduation frorr such a course the Engineer is qualified for the e ectrica fie d daily as pertaining tc electronic app icat : ' as well as for the numerous specialized phases : e radio and telev isior fie ds. The Interfraternity Council was formed during the 1951-52 school year in order to better the relations between the recognized fraternities at In- diana Tech. The council is composed of two members elected from each fraternity. The two offices of President and Secretary-Treasurer are rotated among the member fraternties every third meeting in order to prevent domination of the council by any single fraternity. One of the early aims of the council is to establish an Annual Interfraternity Dance to help the mem- bers of the various fraternities become better acquainted. inTERFRRTERIIITV COUIKIL 49 Left to Right: Dalqleish, Houk, Miss Weimer, Mr. Marshall. the TECHnicinn The first edition of The Technician was published in January, 1932. Tech emerged victorious in three out of nine- teen contests this season, whereas last year they won only one game. A completely green squad was present- ed to Hank Fallon with the exception of Charles Kay and Ralph Hanson, two of last year ' s returning lettermen. With very little material on hand and an extreme lack of height Hank Fallon did an exceptionally good job of organizing his players, and bettered the school ' s previous season by two games. Bill Deitsch, the Techmen ' s leading scor- er, was the chief thorn in the side of the opposition game after game. A deadly left-handed shot which averaged 20 points per game over some very strong opposi- tion was Tech ' s only bright spot. Ralph Hanson was forced to leave the squad after playing the first 9 ball games because of working and school difficulties. This left Tech with only Keith Elder over the six foot mark, to handle the pivot and re- bounding. The loss of Hanson ' s rebound- ing to go along with Elder gave the opposi- tion complete control of both backboards. Coach Fallon has been in search for tall men to go along with seven returning let- termen for next season ' s squad to bring 62 THE COACH Indiana Technical College ' s Athletic coach for the past year was Mr. Henry M. Anyone watching the progressive sports program at Tech this year saw the formation of the boxing team. This group of fisticuff hopefuls worked out regularly with the complete boxing facilities available to the group. While the group entered no inter-collegiate competition this year, the Golden Gloves Tournament felt the strength and skill of the group. With most men returning next year, a much expanded program is in expectation. B X n 66 Hardly had the echo of the second round bell stopped reverberating at North Side High School on the twelfth of Feb- ruary when Frank Carrancepie earned the right to represent Fort Wayne in the Golden Glove National Tournament to be held in Chicago. Frank ' s area champion- ship came when his 10 oz. gloves knocked out former heavyweight area Golden Glove Champion Herb Weigold. The bat- tling engineer ' s lead-pipe right scored a knockout before the first round ended against Vincent Handley in Frank ' s other tournament controversy. In his junior year in high school, the San Juan Puerto Rican got as far as the quarter finals in the welterweight division of the AAU and Diamond Belt boxing tournament held in New York City that year— 1940. The lack of consistency in the Techmen ' s game was the main cause for defeat in most cases. Harry Ide and Ralph Hanson held down the first and second spots, respectively, on the team while the third and fourth posi- tions were split among Len Gau, Woody Krout, Wally Malecky, Don Stinson, and Gerald Van Leeuwen.
