The program oi the modern highschool is to meet the individual needs of the pupil in preparing him to take his place as an intelligent, vvorI4ing member of society. Throughout the country onIy about Iiiteen percent of high schooI graduates enter college, aIthough this Figure is somewhat higher for Indiana. For this reason, the school must assume the tasI4 of heIping each student, no matter vvhat his ultimate goaI, to buiId personaI patterns of living so that he may Iive a reasonably happy, useIuI Iiie. -Ihe SchooI District oi Indiana, through the poIicy oi the Board oi Education and the etiorts oi the Administration and 'Ieaching Staff, is continually adapting the service of the schooI to the needs of the individuaI pupiI. For years indiana has led the state in the percentage oi its teachers who have college and graduate degrees as baclcground ior their vvorlc. The iaculty has as objectives in their work seven principles: 'lj that each student receive training in establishing and maintaining a home, QD that each develop vocational eiiiciency, 3,5 that each learn to engage in wholesome social relationships, 4.5 that each assume responsibility to his government, 5D that each be trained lor personal Fitness, 6.D that each build a Fine pattern oi ethical living, and 7.D that each enlarge his povvers oi esthetic apprecia- tion, The pictures on these pages and those iollovving will show many diiierent ways in which these objectives are being realized in the lives oi nearly fourteen hundred boys and girls.
