DAVID MACLEOD BACHELDER Batch gave up a promising career at Sewanee to come to Indian Springs. He was a member of the track, golf and drinking teams and sang in the Glee Club. Dave got a bang out of cards and weekends. LEO MAX BASHINSKY Leon’s Jayne Mansfield hat was a familiar sight around campus, lie could always be counted on as a bridge fourth and was an active participant in intramurals. Everybody liked Leo, even though he roomed with Mr. Grimes. CLYDE WILLIS BASS Willie B. was a soccer player and a member of the track team and Les Amis de la France. Bass's Renault set an ISS track record for the quarter mile. Willie was an excellent draftsman, and his work around the print shop will never be forgotten. •4 JACKSON HOLT BIRDSONG Bird antedated the Beatles by two years in his hair style. He was only forty pounds underweight but had the lowest voice in the school. Ja' Bird won a Merit Scholarship and was Council Secretary. He plans a postgraduate year at the Springs to catch up on all the P. E. he missed. “No, Coach, I haven’t stolen any weights.” ALBERT MICHAEL BRONSON Doormouse attended Springs for two years. He was Commissioner of Services, Photo Editor of the old ISSINFO and Editor of the KHALAS. Boo was a member of the Trojans and the Mon-dav-Night-at-the-Movies Club. DONALD ELLARD BRUNSON Deeb was a quiet boy who concentrated on his projected translation of the Aeneid. He was a good student and also specialized in soccer, track, and breaking bones. BRUCE LINDSEY BUTLER The Fox became a legend at ISS in his own time. Sometimes known as the Mad Bomber. Bruce found time to mastermaid almost all the pranks ever committed at Springs. Butler played soccer, ping-pong, and was co-editor of the yearbook. STANLEY DOWE BYNUM St in the Spider was an excellent student and a good mayor. He was on the basketball and tennis teams, was a Glee Club officer, and blew his horn. Stan's dining hall announcements were pleasantly informal, though sometimes inaudible. JAMES WESLEY CLOWER III Jim was the onlv person who ever tried to surf on the ISS lake. He sang in the Glee Club; play ed soccer, and was a prankster. Clower managed to get out of two final exams by staging a fake appendicitis attack. 6 JEFFREY HENRY COHN Jeff's girl-rating svstem was so severe that Sophia Loren got only a B+. He was one of the hardest-working boys in school and could be depended upon. Conn edited the ISSINFO and was an officer in the Glee Club and class government. “1 can get it for you wholesale.” JOHN CARTER COLLINS Puppy Dog was Commissioner of Development and a soccer player, but his forte was telling long, intriguing, and often pointless stories. Mr. Moeck thought John excellent in the way he Frenched his horn. P-Dog will be only Dartmouth graduate to major in Dragging. JAMES EDMUND DAVIS JaDe was one of the meekest boys at school The sign of the brown Chew II was always Jimmy’s signal to turn on the charm. He was a star fullback on the soccer team, an ace bass in the Glee Club and a baseball fellow. |’s strong personality and arms will see him well through 7 BRATTEN HERMAN DILLARD Rouge played the baritone horn and shared his roommate's interest in soccer. The Red achieved notoriety one rainy Friday night when Zelda the cat gave birth to six young in his suitcase. Brat was immediately awarded the Medal of Distinguished Midwifery of the Humane Society He reported, however, that he preferred Julie’s company to the kittens'. DAVID TIMOTHY DOBBS Hunk will be remembered for his astronomical Board Scores and his agility as a soccer player. He was created an honorary member of the math department when he graduated. “ To.” ROBERT CHARLES ECKERT Tiger came from the Black Forest of Anniston to Indian Springs to study piano. He was slightly sidetracked and became a member of Blind Bob and the Mob.” In between concerts with the Birmingham Symphony, Bob picked up pointers from the Johnny Jive Show. CALVIN POWELL ELDRED IV C. P. was interested in tennis, French, and Becky Smeeky. IIe was also an excellent B-baller and a friend to all. Froggy was instrumental in bringing back Homecoming and won most of the events this year. LAWRENCE ERNEST FUTRELL The Fu played chess. He played with himselt and with half the rest of the country by mail. He was also interested in baseball, soccer, and the trumpet and was a Merit Finalist. Best of luck to the Tucker Tiger at Georgia Tech. “Checkmate.” FRANKLIN HENRY GAFFORD IV Francois enjoyed track and talking and spent much of his time at the gym. After four years of trying out, he finally made the Glee Club and quickly rose to prominence as a member of the risers crew. He was a Merit Finalist, Commissioner of Services and a halfback on the soccer team. Sois amazed the whole school by getting into college—early admissions, at that! MARK HENRY GITENSTEIN Don Pedro made an able President of the Senior Class. He even not the banquet favors wholesale. Mark was a fine student and played fullback on the soccer team. As a result of rooming with Maulitz, he will be prepared for anything he happens to run into at Duke. DALE V. HILL, JR. Although Oiseau arrived as a Junior, he made a fast reputation for himself. He was a NMSC Finalist and a gifted actor and language student. His Continental ties and sport coats were admired by the whole school at Sunday dinner. We hope he and Eckert enjoy rooming togethei at Southern. “Indescribably delicious!” BENJAMIN HARDY JOHNSON III B-Trois was the first soccer plaver to follow Mr. Pich’s pre-game advice. Johnson got hot, laid out the goalie, and lobbed two balls through the net. It is rumored that Ren will join the Peace Corps before he graduates from college. ROBERT GOODLOWE McGAHEY III Twinkletoes was one of the best students ever to come to Indian Springs. He was a Merit Scholar. captain of the basketball team, President of the Glee Club, and Commissioner of Education. Bob set up living quarters in the library, complete with a toothbrush. It is hoped he will learn good studv habits at Harvard. “I'm already 237 hours behind this year!” JACK DOBBS McSPADDEN. JR. Moose had more vim than any other student. He was a soccer forward and had a genuine interest in all school activities. Mr. King gave up grading tests after he found Pooh already knew all the grades. “I've solved all my problems. May I help you with yours? FRANCIS ANTHONY MARZONI, JR. Scoop is a prime example of what student evaluation can do for a boy. Determined to be an all-around guv, he was a Merit Finalist, and lie helped DerPs ailing baseball and basketball teams for three years. Tony plans to ace the giant slaloms down the White Mountains of New 1 iampshire. Hi, guy!” LAWRENCE RYDER MATTHEWS Although Fuse Bomb was proprietor of the 1SS casino for four years, he was a valuable asset to his class and the Trojan team. He also was a Merit Finalist and Commissioner of Recreation his Senior Year. We understand that Fuse will use his card winnings to build a new girls’ dorm at Duke. ROBERT MARX MAUL1TZ Maul was enjoyable to be around he entertained everyone with bis c tie remarks and un-obby v Council Secretary, and a Merit Finalist. He was controllable laughter is crypt . Bobb was a fine student. a m mber of the basketball and track teams and had a talent for getting into strange situations. Let’s hope he doesn’t lose it Harvard. LEROY CERALl) MONSKY, JR. Leroy talked in an incomprehensible foreign language most of the time, but on occasion bis irrepressible cry of “Hey. Jew! ’ resounded across campus, He was a charter member of the Car-of-the-Month Club and played first base for the baseball team. Pee hopes to be a big fish in the Green Wave. “Got my goot in a tish, laaaaang-v peeV 12 THOMAS EDWIN MOODY Solly-Tav fled to Indian Springs to escape the opposite box. Stewart, however, followed him to his lair. Moods was pitcher on the baseball team and sang in the Glee Chib. Rest wishes to Tommy at Vanderbilt. THOMAS BERRY NORTON, JR. The Big A was always expounding around campus. He was co-captain of the soccer team. Commissioner of Protection and a Glee Club officer. Even with 58 pit stops. Norton won the 1964 York Grand Prix in the GT. ERSKINE RAMSAY II Chesty’s house will never be the same after our class’s hairy breakfast. Neither will the class, for that matter. Chest played a sharp game of bridge and was the class jester. We hope Urchin won't ruin his lung capacity by taking up smoking. JOHN BARRATT RUDULPH F. C. had more opinions than anyone else at the Springs. He excelled as a debater and was a VMSC finilist. John dabbled in conservative politics and was interested in community life. “You have your Ivy League Schools ...” COOPER MYERS SCHLEY JR. Cooper was an inconspicuous boy. spending most of his free time in the library, but made headlines with his English Composition score. Fred called Coop his star Advanced Placement PE student. T ROBERT GROVER SHAMBLIN When Ert first appeared on campus, he frightened many seniors. Possibly through sheer intimidation. he was elected mayor his senior year: he was also a member of the basketball and track teams. The only things which overshadowed Shamblins career at Indian Springs were his extra-curricular achievements. 14 RICHARD ALLEN SHERMAN Despite the fact Dickie was Commissioner ot Protection the last half of his senior year, he was still a good boy. He will also be remembered for his quiet behavior in the library. He was a varsity soccer player and a very wise man. ARTHER ROY STARNES Ace’s main interest at the Springs was training his bone. As captain of the Brass Ensemble, he led his team to victory in many contests and ETV appearances. We wish him success at the Eastman School of Music. JAMES MAHAN TANNER, JR. Tans once got Gafford a job in a brickyard during the summer at twenty cents an hour. It is rumored that Tanner owned the brickyard. Al stated his education platform wearing a bur- Sandy blazer and blue jeans. Notwithstanding lis sartorial appeal, he lost the race. “My name is Jim Tanner. I go to Indian Springs School. I listen to WSGN because Tommy Moody does.” 15 1964 Senior Class McGahey leaves the library for the first time in four years. ISS and opposition converge on ref. 36 Pig engages in a volley hall game. Timberlake stretches but still misses ball. The ISS Tennis Team was the only school team to have a winning season. They were undefeated in team competition, and came in third in the state. Even Davis watches in awe as Monskv downs a CIIAMPALE in three seconds. Norman tries to revive another one of Slaughter s scrog victums. Fred always had a big following at ISS. ISS recently installed a laundry . . . 48 Sophs and Juniors had a hard time stopping the senior team. - Monsky looks on as Mr. Draper’s alligator bites his foot. Slaughter, noticing P-Dogs menacing look, glances at his team- mates for assurance. Where did he come from? 49 Pig returns serve. (Note Fuse’s hand caught in net.) Coach looks for missing balls. Scoop claws his way to five feet. Evans is repulsed at the thought of Bynum making tackle. Where did you say “The Fish” was? Collins, Editor Bronson, and Maulitz judge swimming impartially. 51 Futrell flicks himself (or eighteen and a half feet. 4; i Slaughter rides for lib life as Mr. A. closes the gap.
