“
Dedication to a Friend We. the class of 81”, wish to dedicate this years Ojequack to Mr. William Charles Heck, teacher and friend. To some he is just a teacher”, but to many others he is also a friend. I speak of him as he is and not as he was because for many of us he still lives on, in our hearts. Everytime we play a wrong note or get out of step while marching, we’ll think of him standing there, shaking his head, and telling us to do it over again. We appreciate what he has done for us though maybe we never said so before. This is our way of saying Thank You and We Love You. Mr. Heckl Georgia Blankenship Mr. Heck A Man has Died A man has died this year And the tears have fallen. The love that we've shown. And the love we've held inside, has told of our loss. People, joined in song and prayers. Have paid their tribute. As the tears fell again. A man has died. But his work shall live. Now family and friends. And all who knew him. Only have memories. And worn out photographs. I knew the man. His belief in us never failed. He had a heart for love And a mind for caring. He taught me to believe in me. Yes. a man has died. But his soul shall linger on. To kiss a morning of new life. We have traveled far upon it but have yet far to go. We have shared victories and defeats. We have dreamed and planned for what lay ahead, building on what lay behind. But now the road divides. and we must go our separate ways. To follow our own road is what we now must do. But some day our roads may cross again. And then we'll remember when last we walked to- gether. And see how far we’ve come. 5 Jim McCormick As we traveled this road together. 6 We walked . . . and talked 7 We ran and laughed . . . 8 We stumbled and despaired 9 . . . we rested and pondered . . Although my year is not over, I realize all the great things I have learned since I got here. I knew this was going to be a very special year but I never imag- ined how great everything would be, especially the people I've met. Without each one of them, my ex- perience wouldn’t have been the same. Thank God I still have a few months left! I would say that I have learned here what I consider now one of the most important things for me: That no matter who you are, where you come from or what language you speak, in any place of the world, all the people you can think of are basically the same, so . . . don't be afraid. It’s almost impossible for me to thank everybody enough for this wonderful time that I will remember with love and perhaps tears of nostalgia for the rest of my life—for being so nice, helpful and patient. AFS . . . you are great!! With love forever, gracias otra vez, Pat Bolivia 117 My Friends, This is just a special note of thanks to everyone who is or has been a part of Indian River. I think we've all had our less than great moments here, but it’s funny how hard it is to remember them now that the year has been and gone. My year in the States and here at school has been one that I’ll never be able to forget. (The only thing that I did not like about my trip was the Royal’s performance in the World Series)! I think you people convey good feelings to all of the A.F.S. members that walk through the halls of your school. You are all a great bunch and don't forget itl Twelve months ago, I left home and I was sad. Now I’m leaving home again and I feel a deeper sadness. Sadness in leaving so many friendly, caring people with so much love to give and share. Sadness in leaving my home, perhaps forever, at Indian River High School. I’m humbled to have been part of your family . . . Forever Grateful, Tony Tony Keatley New Zealand Dear Everybody, Thank you very much for this wonderful experience I’ve shared with you. Everybody has been so helpful to me-, All the problems I thought I would have before leaving France did not occur. I hope, in exchange, that I have shown you well the way of living in my country. I should also like to thank the AFS club for all the nice things they did for me and the teachers who were helpful during my studies. In short, these ’’things” mean comprehension, discussion, kindness and most of all Friendship. Really, I will remember this unforgettable experience and keep in mind all the friends I met and with whom I laughed a lot during this year spent at In- dian River. Thank you very much and take care. Love, Jean Jean Agostini France Exchange Students Hola! This past summer, through A.F.S., I was able to spend two and a half glorious months in Brazil. I lived in the village of Miracema, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. I came to know the language, the customs, the places and, most of all, the people. I have a closeness to my family and friends there and a sense of loss in being far from them. To quote a friend, we are totally unaware of the existence of individuals in other lands . . . the per- sonalities of the individuals . . . until we are taught through an experience like this'% I learned how true this was. I'd like to thank all of you who helped me to have this experience by supporting A.F.S. Brasil, eu adoro voce. Deus te abencoi. Beijos e carinhos, Brenda Brenda Veivia Brazil Exchange Students Bonjour, This past summer I was at., to spend two months with a French family near Clermont-Ferrand, France. By being in the Agriculture Program I learned many ways of the French farm. I not only worked on one farm but two, so I was able to compare aspects of a beef-cattle farm to a wheat farm. My stay was very rewarding in that I learned many things about a completely different culture. I would like to thank those who helped raise money for A.F.S., for without these people, my trip would not have been possible. It was a great experience and I hope more people become involved with A.F.S. in the fu- ture. I again thank you. Au-revoir, Craig Craig Thornton France 119 Newspaper Club Row I: Ms. Fitzgerald.
