Ojequack Indian River Central School Philadelphia, JV. f. Volume X VJJJ1979 The name of Our Yearbook “O-Je- Quack”, is the name the Indians used to identify the river we know today as the Indian River. Mma Mater A fair river of the Northland Gladly gave to us our name, And as time records our history, We will honor it with fame. While the river flows forever. On the hill we’ll proudly stand; We will sing of our devotion And allegiance, hand in hand. Brightly burns the lamp of knowledge; From the shadows we emerge To absorb its rays of wisdom— At its fount we will converge. Though its brilliance sometimes blinds us. We will not have tried in vain. For the strength of our foundation Is the knowledge we will gain. As our deeds become our legends, You will hear of our renown. Harken, now, each generation. Add new glory to our crown! We are planting our traditions; You defend them valiantly. Hand in hand, we are united. Indian River, we love thee! By: Bethany House, Class of 1961. i We dedicate our book to . . Mr. Hall, Guidance Counsellor Mr. Carpenter, Former Vice Principal. We. the senior class of 1979, wish to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Hall and Mr. Carpenter, who have meant a lot to us through our years at Indian River. Mr. Hall has guided us toward our career goals and has helped us throughout our school years. Mr. Carpenter has taught us all about rules and respon- sibilities. At times we have felt they were demanding and too strict, but in the end we have found it was all for the better. We would like to extend our sincere and deep appreciation to each of them. They will always hold a special place in our hearts. It’s hard to believe it’s ’79. It seems that it was such a short time ago that we felt like strangers in these halls. 3 We’ve come so far, Grown so much in just a few short years. We are no longer children, but still have far to go. We are beginning a whole new life, Something totally new to us. All this growing we’ve done, We’ve done together. 5 6 We’ve shared so i the parties, plays and even tragedii many things: games, ss. We’ve shared our dreams and hopes, We wonder if these Will turn out as we’ve planned. 7 Do we really know Where we are headed or what to expect. Whatever has happened is past— We can never return. Are we prepared for this? Up to now, everything we’ve faced We’ve faced together. 9 Can we 1 problem Without We are s ese same own, ds having help us? 10 Some of us are parting forever and our lives will never be the same. We don’t truly know where we’re headed or what we may find. No one does. There are some things we will never want to forget, and some it hurts to remember. Richard Brotherton But whatever happens, we wish the best for each other because, even if we aren’t together anymore, We are still the class of 79. 15 By Pati Kirch Seniors Candice Alguire Kldri Aukrust Annette Aldrich Kim Amato Donna Aldrich Terri Bartlett Barbara Ashley Janet Aldrich Sam Biondollilo Stephen Brctsch Joseph Coffie Lisa Coutermarsh Susan Cranick John Culbertson Anthony Delcllo Kelly Culbertson Maryann Delles Annette l arrell Teresa Dickson I'leming Eileen Glceson Liene Gricco Linda I'rank Brian Gonseth Shelley Griffin Tammie Fuller David Gregory George Gleason Donald Hicks Brad Gutierrez Amanda Haymond Jacquelyn Hill Barbara Hermann David Hilligas Laura Herman Jamie lloff Susan Holer Don Kelsey Teri Johnson Lynn Kelsey Michelle Hull Ruth Jones Juliette Hurrell Jeff Kavanaugh Randy Lake Bonnie Kurtz Pat La Mont Laura LaMar Brenda LaBow Michele Lawler Penny LaMica Rosalie Leddv Stephanie Mann Melody Monica Steven Marshall Robert Moran Bruce Livingston Karleen McKready Maggie Murphy Jerri Lothrop Kim Olschcwskc Danny Parson Mike Murphy Brian Palmer John Peacock Donald Norkett Lance Parker Dorene O’Donnell Robert Phelps Wayne Pitts Tim Pctranchuk Juanita Pitts Maureen Plochn Tammy Pharoah David Phelps Sarah Richter Nancy Rosbrook Chris Ridsdale Jeff Russel! Thank you ai! so much for this really fantastic year here. Although I speak English I have had a lot to learn, even in the language! Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to leave for I will miss you all very much, but in my memory lies all the beautiful experiences I have had, like the trips to Kansas Florida, the Pep rallies, pizza sales and basketball games, but most of all, the tremendous friends I have made. I have always had difficulty in expressing how I feel, but 1 really appreciate everything that you have all done for me, in making this year a memorable one! Thank you and take care, With Love, JuJu. 66 Hi my friends! A half year has already passed, but fortunately I have still the other half left. When I first came over here, I was excited and a bit scared at the same time. Everything was so strange from what I was used to. I didn’t know the language very well nor any of the people here. 1 found out fast that there was no need to worry. I have a great family and have met some super people inside and outside of school. Thanks for being so nice, helpful and understanding to me, that is what has made everything so great for me, this year. You have taken very good care of me. Unfortunately there is not room enough to write “thanks” to each in- dividual! I just want you all to know how grateful I am. Thanks .... small word .... Big meaning. Thanks for opening up your doors and for letting me share your lives and culture with you this year. I wish you all the best of luck, whatever it may be. This year will always have a very special place inside me, and I will especially remember all the fine friendships I have made. Since I love to read poems, I would like to con- clude with this little, but for me, very meaningful poem. Thanks again! Friendship. What a wonderful way for a day to begin ... When a door swings wide and a friend says: “Come in”. Love always and take care, Zo Zurkey Merhaba! I would like to convey my gratitude to all who made last summer’s experiences possible for me. Through AFS I was able to spend two exceptional months in beautiful Turkiye. My Turkish family is friendly and wonderful. I look forward to going back to Bocak (Bojak), my home in Turkiye for a visit. Again please accept my genuine thanks for the time and work that provided me with the opportunity to live within and learn about a society very different from our own. Sol! (Thanks!) Gule Gulf Kelly Culbertson A 9S Zo Costa Kica Hola, This past summer I was able to spend ten weeks in Costa Rica. I lived in a small town named San Isidro de El General. My family was great. I learned a new way of life from them, would like to thank everyone who supported the A.F.S. making it possible for me to have this wonderful experience. Sports- manship and hard hitting were keys to the team’s overwhelming success. The team showed a well balanced offensive attack averaging over 20 points a game finishing second only to powerful Lowville. The defense ended the campaign with the label of toughest defense in the entire league by giving up only 52 points in 9 games. The 78 Warrior’s broke many records: Fewest penalties Fewest injuries Best defense in both divisions Best pass defense Best offensive screen play (yardage) Most All Stars to name just a few. They provided the extra spirit and experience when the team needed it the most. To our three senior captains; Mary Wassus, Lisa Coutermarsh, and Susan LaFave, 1 would like to extend my gratitude for all the little extra’s you provided the entire season and my appreciation for your outstanding leadership qualities—you fulfilled the role of a captain, a true team leader in thought and deed. As a team, your spirit, enthusiasm, pride, and your willingness to always give your best will serve as an inspiration to all teams at Indian River. You possessed all the qualities that make for a “special team”, a team that I will never forget. Thank you for providing me with some unforget- table moments that I will always treasure. I am very proud to have had the honor of coaching such outstanding athletes.
