I remember the fights we all had, Arguing over silly, unimportant matters; I recall the sorrow of losing friends to the rest of the world; They meant a lot to us all. There were times when we laughed together, We were built up together, We fell down together; It was exciting, the time of growing up. Together we could always make it; And I remember the hurt of final parting, I remember 1974. by Laura Coulon Ojequack Indian River Central School Philadelphia, New York Volume XIV Remembering. . . 2 Seniors . . . ... 3 Underclassmen 4 Sports . . . ... 5 Activities Although there are many people who hope to stay am arW culture in America, only some ol them can get a chance. It takes quite a person to make endoplasmic reti- culum appealing to every member of the class. He must also be credited for the devotion and spare lime he gave to make our activities such as the junior and senior plays. AFS musicals, AFS club, and pool parties successful and memo- rable. He is a man we will always remember. We Remember Two very special people who left a deep impression in the heart of the class of’74. Wishing to make known our affection for each of them, we dedicate our yearbook to Miss CAROL LOVLNGUTH and Mr. WILLIAM BERRY. We can think of few other teachers who have devoted as much time and patience to the development of sportsman- ship here at IRC as Miss Lovenguth. Not only has she influ- enced Girl's Sports by bringing them to their highest peak during our high school years, but she has also promoted school spirit through her art talents and with her work with cheerleading. We’ll never forget her! 4 Oh can’t you see the morning after? It’s waiting right outside the storm. lilii Why don’t we cross the bridge together And find a place that's safe and warm. It’s not too late, we should be giving; 9 Only with love can we climb. It’s not too late, not while we’re living 10 Let’s put our hands out in time. There’s got to be a morning after n We’re moving closer to the shore. I know we’ll be there by tomorrow, And we'll escape the darkness; We won’t be searching anymore. The Board of Education The work of the Board of Education, for the most part, has been behind the scenes of our every- day school life. They are responsible for making decisions and spend many tedious hours doing so for the benefit of the students. Row 1: Mrs. J. Gillet, Mr. R. Laisdell, Mrs. K. Rudes. Row 2: Mr. F. Stevens, Mr. G. Sheldon, Mr. A. Crosby, Mr. R. Wallace. Not present: Mrs. R. Hulbert and Mr. D. Turnbull. Mrs. L. Waite, Mrs. J. O'Driscoll, Mrs. C. Buster. Mr. P. Fredenburg (District Qerk). Dr. William Dadey, District Principal. 13 Administration Where in the school was there such activity as in the Main Office? The Senior class remembers the warm responsive- ness of the people working in the office towards the problems and needs of the students. Their concern was genuine and will be remembered in a special way. Mr. Irwin Brown, Principal Mr. Kenneth Carpenter, Vice-Principal Secretaries: Mrs. M. Dougall, Mrs. E. Lingenfelter, Mrs. W. Feather. M Faculty A big part of our school life has been spent in the presence of many dedicated teachers. They not only taught us, but they also helped bring out in each of us the individual with his own special tal- ents. The faculty was taken for granted much of the time and we never really showed them how much we appreciated them. So now, we, the Class of 1974, would like to extend our deeply felt thanks to the many teachers of Indian River Cen- tral for making our years here so very fulfilling and enjoyable. Nicholas 20 L Dingman, Driver Education Instructor 21 Senior Class We reinber our first years at IRC, the way we shied away from each other and tended to stick to only a few of our well-known friends, the lightness with which we faced the thought of our future, the silly and futile arguments with friends who we thought were oddly different, the hard times we gave to the teachers who we didn t realize were really concerned about our futures, the way we shrugged off school activities and didn’t really feel a part of them because we were so young and were just the “squirts” of the high school. We remember all of these things but we haven’t allowed them to hold us back. And now that we have reached our final year in high school we remember much more meaningful things than those mentioned above. We remember the Junior and Senior Plays, the Magazine Drive, AFS musical, all the big sports games and so many other school activities. And what was so important about these activities that makes them so memorable? The importance lies in the way we all came to know and care about each other, as friends and as peo- ple. We came to realize our dependence upon one another for support in the things we undertook and encourage- ment in the goals that began to form in our minds for a life in the future. And we especially remember how all these events helped us to reach the point of maturity that makes it evident that we would miss each other when gradua- tion finally parts us and sends us on our own separate ways. The experiences involved by each of these plays played a major role in bringing many of the class members to- gether and helping them to find one another as friends. We will always remember the precious moments of our de- pendence upon and need for each other that resulted from the planning and actual production of these plays. The memories of each of these plays will live on forever in the minds of the people involved and will always belong to the precious high school years spent at IRC. 47 Senior Play On the 20th of November the Senior Class proudly pre- sented the following One-Act Plays: Cast HOPE IS A THING WITH FEATHERS John McIntyre Dale Cronk John Robinson Bob West Randy Shaw Ron Dibble Carl Farmer Russ Bridge Noah Prior SIDEWALK John Sanders Carl Farmer Mike Monroe Ed Cocco Trudy Benson Jeri Parker BEWARE THE BEAR Micki Aiken Tracey Northrop Sue Rose Brenda Bartlett Judy Pctranchuk Beth Farr Dorothy Jackson Van Martusewicz VOICES Colleen Vock Kevin Kent Sherry Bertrand Cheryl Grieco Noah Prior Crew Student Directors: S. The members are selected by their fellow classmates and are expected to represent and work for the betterment of the student body as a whole. All too often, their work has gone unnoticed and the student body in general tends to take for granted the functioning of this council. The “Senior Class of 74” remembers and appreciates all that the Student Council has done for the school and the time and work that has gone into their efforts. Mr. Huntress, K. larr, J. Holt .man, R. The strong frontier league was dominated by Carthage, Lowville, and IHC. The three schools tied for first place with identical records of 3 and 1. Indian River showed promise for the future and played seven hard fought games, and proved that the Warriors could pass. Tough breaks and injuries plagued the gridders all season but real spirit and determination proved that a great bunch of young sportsmen don’t have to have a winning season to be winners. Row 1: W. Although they tied Lafargeville 0-0 in double overtime in the championship game, they were forced to accept second place in the tournament as a result of a coin flip. Much appreciation and recognition should be given to these girls for their efforts and especially to their coach Miss Lovenguth. Row 1: R. Hatchell, J. Trerise, B. Bos- hart, P. Simpson, P. A highlight has been the fine cooperation, spirit and attitude displayed by the players. Coach Paddock felt that a team attitude like this made coaching very enjoyable. There has been excellent leadership by many members of the team, particu- larly the team co-captains. He felt that the best part of the season possibly still was ahead in the play-offs and sect- ionals. Row 1: T. McKcever, K. Albern, T. Leeson, B. Clark, M. Dickson. Row 2: T. LaLone, T. Maloy.C. This job may not have been completed without the help of Mrs. Scozzafava who coordinated our efforts. Through the many long hours that were spent in arranging pages, photography, writing copy, and thinking of ideas to make our yearbook characteristic of us, we feel that Mrs. Scozzafava was a great inspiration to all who worked with her. She helped in easing the pressure of the load to make the deadlines that were set. Through her en- couragement and pleasant personality, she made the hours of work enjoyable. Our yearbook has captured special memories for all of us during this school year. We hope that everyone will relive many happy moments after opening the cover of this book. The Ojequack staff of ’74 will enjoy closing the cover, for only we know what a special time it was for us in completing it. We thank Mrs. Scozzafava for being there when we needed her, for keeping us in line and for lifting our spirits when we felt down. And most of all, we thank her for being herself. “What do you mean I can't check pg. 119?” 119 I wish I’d written that! Gee! I hope there’s film in it this time! Energy Crisis” But this IS a quiet study hall! That WAS the punch line! 124 Advanced Literary Club Our World Traveler I was selected by the American Field Service to spend the summer of 1973 as an American Abroad Summer Program student in Costa Rica, a small Central American country. For ten weeks 1 lived with a family in Cartago, a very old and traditional city. I attended school, El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, with my sisters. This is a small, private. Catholic Girl’s school, but it was not as strict as I expected it to be. My father, Herman Azofeifa Salas, works as an accountant and is also associated with the Cartago soccer team. My mother. Ana Isabel, is a housewife. I had four Costa Rican sisters: Lucia, 16: Rosa, 15; Christina, 13; and Noemy, 10. They were typical Costa Ricans, loud, emotional, and most of all fun-loving. I wasn’t treated as a guest, but as a member of the family. 1 went with my sisters to friends’ houses, to school activities, dances, and to the dis- cotheque on weekends. It was a great experience. I would like to thank all those who supported me and the A.F.S. Club. 125 Sophomore Class Mr. Coolidge, Advisor P. Bretsch, President L. Coughlin, Secretary C. Coolidge, V. President D. Gillctt, Treasurer 126 Yearbook Staff We discarded one picture and kept another, we tore up several pages and changed even more, we erased those words and wrote new ones, we left out a person’s name and then had to do it over, we couldn't get that picture so we did without it, we lost our plans and had to make them again, we changed our minds and found new ideas, we forget one little thing but remembered so many others.....And that should tell you just what went into the making of this yearbook. The Ojequack Staff of 1974 has tried to present its readers a true reflection of the life of our school and its student-teacher involvements in various activities. We have concentrated on many of the memories of our final year but justify it by stating its importance to us as Seniors. We certainly realize that our yearbook is no example of an artist's masterpiece but it is the product of our earnest efforts to capture so many of our memories; and what more could we give you? We sincerely hope that our yearbook means as much to you as it does to us but that all depends on just what the high school year of 74 held for you. YEARBOOK ST AII' Row 1: M. La Mont, R. Its completion has taken us back through time, a time that was im- portant to all of us. We will remember the moments working, waiting, listening—that have combined to make us nearer experience and the utilization of what we have learned, learning that came not only from books, but from one another. We have been guided down a long corridor, learning about the world and ourselves and seem to have suddenly come upon the doors to our future. The OJEQUACK Stall of 74 has presented this book in hopes that each of you will open it as a door into the past, a pleasant memory-1974. 135 Autographs Bf.
