And it is an obstacle to overcome for we at IHCC, toog there are storms and snow and ice. But we endure. We endure these and more important kinds of storms as we grow from child to youth to many storms of sorrow . . . disappointment . . . adversity. But the world must pass through winter to feel the gentle breath of spring. We are falcons and a falcon must fly through darkness and storms to glide through to a rainbow. IN the winter, ski sweaters are a common sight. Greg Pister. l YES, Virginia, it does snow a lot In southern Iowa. We each roam over Indian Hills with a different destination in mind. Some look for solitude, others for action and excitement. As our consciousness rests inside each of our bodies, we are existing in our own private world no one else may ever enter. Yet we co-exist with all other living forms. So though we can be alone inside ourselves, we never have to be. We can always reach out when we need to. We have a choice. -. .l DAVE Froellch gets rld of a practice thirst. With some 325 students roaming the IHCC campus, there is a wide variety of individuals to conform to a small middle-class rural community. From Bozeman, Montana to St. Louis, Missouri to Milwaukee, Wisconsin-students come from large urbanized communities to a small town of a mere 6,753 people. Several activities were provided by the school this past year to break the ice in getting students situated and right down home in the town of Centerville, Iowa. Dances, kegs in the Barn, the regular season ballgames, and the same ole' homework were some of the things that helped pass the time. Even though everyone complained at one time or another about the lack of something to do, we really enjoyed living here and could later stand back and say . . . . . . To entertain these carefree folks, we instituted a policy of having at least one dance a month. We can get together and talk, laugh, dance or listen to music. lt's relaxing and invigorating - a great way to get the bugs out. After studying or really putting your back into something like basketball, baseball, softball or something like the Falcon or a Student Senate project, and a dance hits your fancy - it's available! Bi-Centennial's Over, Back To Normal Life lt's over with-finally! The Bi-Centennial that first gave us such a patriotic feeling was so commercialized that it eventually began to bore us. Red, white and blue yearbooks, T-shirts, underwear, cupcakes, dolls and games. Patriotic music, Bi-Centennial minutes on T.V. and the radio, pieces of local Americana in the newspapers bombarded our senses at every turn. And now it's '77 and a sense of relief steals over us. Homecoming Rally- First In Years It's been years since we've had a Homecom- ing Rally at IHCC, but with the enthusiasm generated by those bubbling cheerleaders, something good like this was bound to happen. They wrote, costumed, acted, painted and hung signs-it paid of. Skits were performed, teams introduced, queen and court were honored and a lot of spirit was generated. The Falcons jumped off to a 10-1 start, before a mid-season slump dropped the record to 12-9 and they ended with a 15-10 mark. Dave Warden, Bruce Smith, George Marshall, Rick Schiller and Ron Smith played to the biggest roles in the Falcon season and all are sophomores. So, if Coach Dinsdale hopes to continue on the road of success he will probably have to have another good recruiting year, which to this point has been one of his strongest assets. 78 Green River 79 102 Colorado NW 98 93 Nebraska West 90 109 Waldorf 88 94 Moberly 80 93 York 70 123 Hannibal-LaG. 59 110 Boone 92 83 Park Forest 79 107 Lakeland 90 113 Clarinda 102 68 Palmer 76 84 Kirkwood 71 80 Moberly 89 85 Ellsworth 101 92 Muscatine 93 118 Clinton 120 107 Kirkwood 75 85 Clinton 96 84 Clarinda 89 99 Ellsworth 108 109 Keokuk 68 110 Muscatine 89 77 Palmer 66 Keokuk- Forfeit 75 Regional Tournament Creston 89 NX xk 345 THE sky's the Iimit, shouts RAY Toles holds his ground to a driving Waldorf opponent. Key Factor ls Experience Coach Pete Salazar led the Falconettes into the season, facing the question of whether or not their lack of experience would lead to their downfall. When the dust had settled this was exactly what had happened and the experience shortage had received a good deal of help from a shortage of heighth. The Falconettes finished with a final mark of 5-17 as Mollee Kauzlarich packed the team with a 12.1 average, with Kim Adkins close behind at 11.8. Coach Salazar must now regroup and prepare for next season as the Falconettes lose several sophomores who were vital cogs in this years machine. IHCC Graceland IHCC Waldorf IHCC Trenton IHCC N. E. Never-ending ls The Falcon's Flight As the evening of this year slips into the dawn of the next, we say good-bye to all our close friends and some bid farewell to IHCC for good. Some we'll never see again. And the special world we had in 1976-77 will never exist again, for the world was made of people. A new one will emerge phoenix-like from the ashes to become a new falcon born of the old. And those who've gone will not die in your memory and will go on in the larger world to fulfill their destinies, for never-ending is the falcon's flight.
