SEPT. 11-NEO, 44-IHCC, 25-NEO came into the game ranked 2nd, and a game already under their belts against 14th ranked Iowa Central. IHCC went into half time leading 25-14. Rick Upchurch, running back, scored three touchdowns. Maybe IHCC lost, but NEO's coach reported that he had 8 boys in- jured and lost 2 of them for the season. The injuries proved hazardous to their team, as they ended the season ranked 12th, just one ahead of the Falcons. SEPT. 18-IHCC, 7-Iowa Lakes, O-The Wolves of Iowa Lakes came down and gave IHCC a good game in the rain and cold. Up- church scored the only touchdown. The Fal- con defense also held them to only 85 total yards throughout the entire game. SEPT. 25-Wilbur Wright, 19-IHCC, 18-With the help of the officials, Wright JC was able to defeat the Falcons. We played them on a mud- soaked field without an electric scoreboard or clock, both destroyed during a riot. The Fal- cons were mighty lucky to leave Chicago with their shirts still on their backs. OCT. 2-IHCC, 0-Waldorf JC, O-With the loss of key players, the Falcons and Waldorf fought to a deadlock. The Falcons record now became 1-0-1 in the Conference, while their record overall was 1-2-1. OCT. 9-IHCC, 13-Iowa Central, 6-The Fal- cons started an uphill climb by beating 14th ranked Iowa Central on Homecoming. Hub- bard scored the lst touchdown on a 31-yd. pass from Ramsey, then Upchurch scored on a 11-yd. run. . , 3 1. V. .r, .ig . -- ar, I A r . . 1 ' 1 r - A A, . . gga, A ersegsig' is ' . . V is - -a ,. The Conference Champs OCT. 16-IHCC, 22-Grand Rapids, 21 -In one of the most dramatic football games played by a Centerville JC team, IHCC used a last second pass from White to Sheppard to give the Falcons a stunning victory over previously 3rd- ranked Grand Rapids. With just a minute left, Coach Daniels sent White into the game to handle the aerial attack. McDew, Upchurch, and Sheppard led the action during that minute, and the offensive line did a super job in that last stretch of time. OCT. 23-IHCC, 14-Marshalltown, 6-With all hope of winning the Conference Title shot down because of a player declared inelligible, the Falcons bounced back and defeated Marshalltown CC, even though they knew they had to for- feit the previous wins. Upchurch was the star of the game with a 20-yd. touchdown, and a 68 yd. punt return to his credit. OCT. 30-IHCC, 51-North Iowa, 18-With renewed hope, the Falcons received word that the player declared inelligible was really elligible, so the team started the ball rolling again. .' 4- .f -r ' 'f 5, '2 '. ' . -1a5'?'1?LC?. ,Lv . With hopes high, they ran over NIACC. With scores from Upchurch, McDew, Hubbard, Sheppard, and a 70 yd. punt return by Dyke, the Falcons moved their record to 4-0-1 in the Conference and a 5-2-1 overall record. NOV. 6-IHCC, 35-Ellsworth, 0-The game was built up to be the game of the year, with Ellsworth ranked 4th nation- ally and with an unbeaten record. The underdogs, showing who was best, stopped Ellsworth's running attack formed by All-American Don Willingham, thus becoming the Iowa Junior College Conference Champs. With representatives from different bowls viewing the game, the Falcons thought they had a good chance of getting a bid after their tremen- dous victory. Upchurch again highlighted the game with 242 total yards to his credit. Charlie Hubbard and the of- fensive line also did well. The defensive line kept Ellsworth from getting inside their 20. So, IHCC finished the season with a 5-0-1 record in the Conference and a 6-2-1 overall. While Ellsworth, dropping to a 5-1 record in Conference play, and a 7-1-1 overall, got the bid to the El Toro Bowl. Cabovej The coaches look over the situation on the Chicago field.
