Everything we did was done for the first time, beginning what is now history. Tradi¬ tions we started may be expected to last for years to come. Tim Magoon and Dave Roller present Mr. Ray with the first trophy won for Indian Creek by the Cross Country team. Fans cheer the Braves on to their very first victory against Eminence. 5 The American flag flies proudly above our new school. The ”before and after” view of our school Students from three different schools waited a long time for a new school, one in which those three schools would be bound together. It was a long time coming but in the school year 1967-1968 it became a reality. Even though this school was not fully completed by the beginning of the school year, school did start on schedule. The students and faculty overcame many handicaps successfully to make the best of the first year. Lockers, lockers, where are the lockers? One open locker and no students in sight, but when the bell rings — look out! With it’s steel frame still visible, the school was on it’s way to completion and use in the coming year. 7 Gym and School Dedication Ceremonies On Friday night, December 1, the formal dedica¬ tion of the gym was given between the Brown County-Indian Creek games. Phil Eskew, Indiana High School Athletic Association Commissioner was guest speaker. The following Sunday after¬ noon the dedication of the school took place in the newly dedicated gymnasium with an estimated crowd of 1,500 people attending. Mr. Harold Hibbs, Superintendent, welcomed the public and Mr. Hynds introduces the guest speaker, Mr. Ray¬ mond “Dutch” Struck, Athletic Director of Hano¬ ver College. Afterwards Mr. Charles Ray, Princi¬ pal, gave comments and instructions on the follow¬ ing open house. Then the school was opened to the public and refreshments were served. This beautiful cake was part of the Open House refreshments. 8 “ . . . we must meet the challenge of change.” “Listen, coach, I’ll bet I can play without my shoe!” Anxiety can be seen on the faces of cheerleaders and pepclub members. A fine crowd witnessed the Open House ceremonies and enjoyed refreshments. Mr. Phil Eskew congratulates Mr. Harold Hibbs for his devoted work in education. The Intensive Lab provides much helpful experience for the businesswoman of tomorrow. A lot of work goes into a yearbook, as Connie and Russ know. Research is an important tool of English education. 10 Good Educational Facilities at Indian Creek Physical education can be fun, as these girls demonstrate. Chemistry students learn more from experimenting. The academic benefits of our new school are more than any of the three previous schools. Each edu¬ cational department has benefited from the consol¬ idation of the old schools. With more students at Indian Creek, it is possible to have a much wider variety of courses to fit individual needs. Mr. Wilke helps Ralph, Vic, and Mike; but Jim looks like he has a problem too. IC Students Enjoy Educational Facilities Gary, Patti, and Connie examine a camel in art class. Mr. Walsh and Chris have a friendly argument about world affairs. Tony Brewer gets help with an algebra problem from Mrs. Coffey. Sharon Stump enjoys using a Touch and Sew ma¬ chine in Home Ec. Longer class periods provide time for much more study and research. Along with the better facilities at Indian Creek, the longer classes create a healthy educational atmosphere. 12 When a few good actors are taken, (left to right) Mike Smith, Harold Taylor, Sherry Stevenson, Chris Federle, Susan Kitch, Joyce Prather, and Marilyn Smith; combined with a great play, the result is Father Says No, Drama Night ’67. Suzy, played by Cinda Williams, is hostess in the Slumber Party on Drama Night. Characters are (left ro right) Carol, Cindy Courtney; Rochelle, Jane Kitch; Polly, Carol Piper; Zelda, Chris Whetstine, Suzy, Cinda Williams, and Lynn, Nardella Powell. Drama Night Audience Packs Auditorium Drama Night was highlighted by the enthusiasm of student and faculty talent alike. Success was sparked by the warmth of the audience and the unveiled talent of the students. Expert direction by Mr. Sichting and the cooperation of the actors proved great performance can come from ama¬ teurs. Mr. Sichting’s (expert) impersonation of the Tarzan yell. Anxious yet patient, students prepare for curtain time. 15 Sweetheart Dance Sets the Scene for Romance The sly camera catches a moment of tenderness between sweethearts, Harold Taylor and Sherry Therrian. What’s a better way to end a “day for sweet¬ hearts” than to have a “Sweetheart Dance”? In the cafetorium, decorated with symbolic hearts, many a romance was sparked. At the end of the snowball dance even the shyest ones were out on the floor dancing. Christine Sizemore and Martha Miller proved to be the best dancers as they won the fast dance contest. The applause of the crowd gave the prize to Cindy Courtney and Rick Gib¬ son in the slow dance contest. Indian Creek stu¬ dents can label their first “Sweetheart Dance” a success. The dance floor begins to fill as the music softens. 16 4 17 Everyone Leaps for Joy at the Leprechaun Leap These girls dance under attractive decorations at the “Leap”. The Junior Class went all out with their Lepre¬ chaun Leap, which was another fund-raising proj¬ ect for the Prom. A psychedelic effect was provid¬ ed by the wayout music of the band and the green lights, which highlighted one wall where the title of the dance was spelled out. A member of the “Shapes of Things” provides entertainment for the crowd. 18 . . . to the tood — where else?! Where have all the boys gone . . . Indian Creek Hosts the Band Festival Indian Creek-High School hosted its first com¬ bined band festival. This program was made up of bands from schools in Johnson County. They were: Greenwood, Whiteland, Franklin, Edinburg, Center Grove, and Indian Creek. A large crowd attends the impressive band program. Mr. Hildreth (left) exchanges greetings with county band di¬ rector, Mr. Cofield. i Harold Taylor (second from right) receives the first place band scholarship award from Mr. Hildreth. Band members warm up their instruments for their coming performance. 21 1 Drama Class Presents Off the Track” I This play takes place in the waiting room of a small, wayside railroad station. A fast train is de¬ railed and a variety of people are thrown together. Mrs. Vanderventer (Joyce Prather) loses her ex¬ pensive pearls and pandemonium breaks loose. The pearls are found in Mrs. Guarino’s (Marsha Penn) lunch basket. Bill Lindsay (Mike Smith) clears Mrs. Guarine of suspicion and exposes the guilty party. Finally the relief train arrives and everyone leaves. 22 Bob Hicks, who portrays the station agent, John Morgan, examines the evening’s program. Mrs. Guarino (Marsha Penn) argues with Willie Woodson (Joe Anderson), the prosecuting attorney. Silas Dobbins (Craig McKee) leads Mrs. Vander- venter (Joyce Prather) from the witness stand. 23 Choral Department Presents Spring Sing The Spring Sing was an enjoyable occasion for all, presented by the high school chorus and the Rhythmaires. Groups, duets, and singles per¬ formed before a large audience in the cafetorium. Jim Patterson and Rita Land sing “On Moonlight Bay.” 24 These happy couples are Gary Young, Sherry Wyatt, Brenda Hamilton, and Charles Zupanic. Three Coins in the Fountain” The first Prom at Indian Creek will be especially remembered, not only because it was the first, but in many other ways. The juniors will never forget the work, money, and sweat it took to make the Prom a success. Those who came will always cher¬ ish the memory of a wonderful evening. Arriving couples were given their favors and programs. Harold Taylor swings to the beat of the “Organized Confu¬ sion.” 26 Prom court: Don Joslin, Paula Bauman Prom court: Don Poynter, Brenda Woodard. Doris seems excited when Jeff is named king. Seniors Jeff Millikan and Doris David reigned at the Prom. 27 As the evening wore on Becky Walls, Sue Riley, These monkeys are really just juniors Jim Moore and De- wayne Skinner taking down decorations. LaDonna Hamilton, and Marilyn Smith pause to relax. Bev White flies high on the trampoline at the Post Prom. 28 These hungry-eyed, half-starved couples at the Post Prom don’t have to be asked twice to “Come and get it! There’s Gaiety, Fun, and Food at the Post Prom The Post Prom was for those who still had enough pep to get around. Many played basketball, ping pong, cards, swam in the pool, or jumped around on the trampoline. Sloppy joes, potato chips, and soft drinks were the refreshments worth waiting for. ‘Come down here, Doris!” says Rex Watson. 29 ; Jim Moore accepts the Ade Smith Trophy from Coach Cum- Homeroom 123 Chairmen received the Poster Contest plaque, mings. Since Mrs. Coffey will be moving and will not teach at Indian Creek next year, Claudia Hacker presented her with a plaque. 30 Mr. Lydick was master of ceremonies at the Honor Day Program. Underclassmen Honor Day Program The underclassmen had their own Awards Day Program on Wednesday, May 22, 1968. The fresh¬ men, sophomores, and juniors received attendance, sports, commercial, and academic awards. Perhaps the most exciting event in the whole program was the announcement of the engagement of Mr. Kuehn, confirmed bachelor, and Miss Knecht, yearbook sponsor. 31 Seniors Are Honored with Awards Ceremony In addition to the many awards presented at the Senior Awards Program, a brief resume of the fu¬ ture plans of the seniors was read. Many academ¬ ic, club, and sports honors were received by the class of ’68. Don Poynter presents the senior composite picture to Mr. Ray. The principal accepts the National Honor Society charter from Ron Pogue, president of the society. 32 Senior Jim Kaylor had the honor of receiving the first blanket award ever presented at Inidan Creek. Don Poynter passed the key of leadership on to junior class president, Bev White. 33 Seniors Replace Speaker at Graduation Four Senior V.I.P.’s gave speeches to set a differ¬ ent pace to the graduation exercises. The band provided such numbers as “Exodus”, “Colorama”, and “Night Winds”, and “Autumn Silhouette”. Mr. Hynds introduces the student speakers. 34 The band, directed by Mr. Hildreth, provided music for the graduation. Elaine Graves gives her Salutatorian speech Junnie Nichols, third in the class, delivers her speech. Indian Creek Diplomas Are Received ‘‘Hail the conquering heroes!” The long awaited day arrived at last. In addition to the ordinary joy one would feel upon gradua¬ tion, these seniors had the added honor of being Indian Creek’s first graduating class. 37 jrm In Memory of Raymond Bay Sadly missed by his classmates is Raymond Bay, who was killed in an automobile accident April 20, 1968. Raymond was born March 6, 1950, in Franklin, Indiana. His family moved to Morgan¬ town in 1960 where he attended school until this year when the schools consolidated at Indian Creek. Raymond was a senior, outstanding in math, interested in mechanics, and a member of the Audio Visual Club. 38 SPORTS Members of the Varsity squad are: Dan Kean, Steve Buckner, Don Joslin, Bill Willis, Tim Magoon, Jeff Millikan, Dewayne Skinner, Jim Moore, Chris Catt, Gary Mullendore, Jim Kaylor, and John Lancaster. Reserve and Freshman Basketball Teams The Reserve team had a great record this year. These boys will make fine varsity players. Al¬ though the freshman teams had rather poor rec¬ ords, the boys showed signs of becoming good ball players. Margaret Hague, freshman Sherry Lane, freshman Patti Hynds, freshman m Tourney Action After sweeping past the Edinburg Lancers in their first game in the Holiday Tourney, the Braves connected with the Brown County Eagles the next night in a fierce battle, which marked a defeat for us in the books. But in the memories of all the players and all the fans was the mark of enthusi¬ asm and good sportmanship, to ever set an exam¬ ple for future tourneys that will be held at this school. For all the future games that we will watch our Braves play, the same recollection will be present there when we cheer them on to many hopeful victories. Principal Charles Ray presents the trophy. Brave fans “jump for joy” as Indian Creek wins its first game in the tourney. 46 Moore rebounds as Willis looks. Appearing like a jump ball in front of the net, our team succeeds in snaring another rebound. B 47 Indian Creek High School Sectional Time Being our first year at Indian Creek, the 1968 sec¬ tionals were especially important. The enthusiasm and school spirit accompanied by the good sports¬ manship and skill of the Indian Creek Braves showed our loyalty in the sectionals. But White- land was our match. The defeat cut deeply into each Brave’s heart, but also tripled our determina¬ tion to win every other sectional we participate in from now until eternity. As Dewayne Skinner charges down the floor, he finds himself wide open for another two points for Indian Creek. 48 Tension and spirits rise as the mighty Braves fight on. A Whiteland player has confused himself with a Harlem Globe Trotter as he attempts to dribble (?). wmtzmmmzmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Track is the new sport for ICHS and these boys make up the team. Tim Magoon sets a new record in the 220 yard dash. “Up, up and away” John Lancaster! Denny Speer sails (?) over a hurdle. “Here I come, ready or not!” says Jack Hedger. Strength and endurance were qualities of the cross country team. Track and Cross Country Teams Even though this was the first time many of the boys had ever participated in track, the results were tremendous. Several great records were set. The Cross Country team had the honor of winning the first trophy for Indian Creek “Catch us if you can!” 51 Mwmm m Spring Arrives with the Crack of the Bat. I The Braves baseball team had a good season. They got off to a bad start in their first game, however, the most outstanding score recorded dur¬ ing the season was 40-1 in the game with Moores- ville. Steve Buckner makes mighty swing. Will he hit it? Second baseman Tom Ray warms up to bat. 52 m Hi ORGANIZATIONS Indian Creek Band, front row: (left to right) D. Bolin, G. Smvser, B. White, P. Hynds, T. Koron, M. Zook, S. Pitcher. Both clubs put out much work and effort in learning to become more successful in later years. They had money making projects all during the year to raise funds for their club needs. Among the activities that the Future Farmers did was the purchasing of a tractor. They also had coat-checks at all home basketball games this year. The Future Homemakers, being a new club at school, held an initiation and installation of officers which was quite an event. They sold several different kinds of cookbooks to raise mon¬ ey. Sponsoring a soc hop was one of their projects. FHA’ers also attended a spring convention in Bloomington. Newspaper and Yearbook Staffs Were Active! The newspaper and the yearbook staffs at Indian Creek this year consisted of members of the Jour¬ nalism class. Those members were quite busy this year. The challenge of finding, assimilating, and reporting the Indian Creek High news to the Indi¬ an Creek students was an honorable one. Also the responsibility of producing an Indian Creek year¬ book was another challenge to be met. 74 SENIORS 75 DONALD EUGENE POYNTER PRESIDENT JEFFREY LYNN MILLIKAN VICE PRESIDENT DENWARD WRAY SPEER TREASURER JAMES EARL KAYLOR SECRETARY STEPHEN MICHAEL KERSEY REPORTER 76 Mr. Poole and Mrs. Woods, senior class sponsors, examine the picture stand that will hold the senior composite pictures.
