V - - -- -,'- W- 'A-' H- -I.. -- J 0 One of the biggest events of the year was the reception honoring Missa Gertrude- E. Copeland for twenty-five years of service. The reception was given January 4, in the nurses' home by the Nursing School Alumnae, Board of Directors, and the Medical Staff. More than four-hundred guests came to pay their respects and Miss Copeland received many lovely things. The Alumnae presented her with a matched set of luggage and the Medical Staff with a beautiful sterling silver tray. A ,, r - fWho can resist the lure of the unknown? .... a forbidden glimpse into tlte fascinations of the Future? Then come along while werwave the miraculous wand that propels' us forward, into time ..... any given amount of time! What would be interesting? Two years? Five years? How about ten years? I g Abacadabral and here we are. But where are we? This looks like an alumnae meeting, and the calender on the wall says it's l958. Let's look around ..... ' r . . . . . The old San seems to be in capable hands. Margaret Walker is superintendent of the hospital and is being ably assisted by director of nurses. Virginia Fitch. Nearby, in a suburb called Kansas City, Eleanor Holm is operating a boarding house for medical students and dentists-tosbe. Peggy Davis has settled down in Columbia and is finally finishing the sweater she started knitting her first year in training. just in time, too, for her next grandchild. Poor old ,lean Nagel is still trying to pass state board after flunking anatomy for the ninth time. Elaine Metcalf 'has become surprisingly -philanthropic and is running an orphanage for little l...D.S.'s ' ..... ages ,ZI-25 inclusive. Jean Parsons and Alberta Steele, though sisters' now, se-ldom are together, but managed a family reunion recently in celebration of Alberta's eldest son's tenth birthday. They tell me ,lean is on the verge of success, just -having written a sensational best-seller about life on a poultry farm. Speaking of farms, we caught a glimpse about Alice Marshall's latest claim to fame ..... 'Prize for raising the tallest corn in Iowa history' is sweeping the countries headlines. They tell me Dorothy Hays is still receptionist for that dentist she used to rave about. Remember Lottie Coleman? Well, she's doing nicely. She's graduated from wet sheet packs' to continuous tubs and is progressing well with O.T. Aileen Higgins is still in the profession and from what I hear she'll be replacing Dr. Etzen- houser one of t-hese days. Josephine Thompson has just had her fifth major operation. All she has left now is her tapeworm. And Jackie Uhl, her old roommate, is really going up in the world, she's singing-with Ralph's band now. Margaret Rupardgand Jean MacDonald are still together ..... Jean gave up he-r job in the chorus line at the Follies to help Margaret raise that family she wasn't going to have. Some of the old class -have gone far afield. For ex- ample, Virginia Bryant is now in Hawaii -putting the finishing touches on that hula, under Pualani Victor's. supervision. Nora Bessmer made that long-'planned trip to Europe and fell in love with a Swiss mountain-climber who yodels love- songs to her eveg evening, Shirley Crowell is gradually growing desperate, but is 'bearingiiip well. She's still lioping'The Right'-One-will come along. I had a postcard from her last week, and I guess she's hoping now 'he'll come along in Afghanistan. Joyce Hartnell 'has gone back to Canada, and is now taking care of little Eslcimos, fhealthiest race? and the R.C.M.P, On the other side of the world, Norma Houston and husband Fred are learning to live among the can- nibals on the Fiji Islands-ah, the thrills of being a missionary's wife! Verna Watter has gone overse-as, too, they tell me. She's running some radio show called Tokyo Rose's. Other Husband . Alice Elaine Smith was supposed to accompany her but gave it up in lieu of an education ..... s'he's still working on her degree, at some eastern college called Princeton. 6Zaee706ZZ ' We, the undersigned, being questionable in soundness of mind and utter- ly lacking in judgments do hereby liequeatlivto- the 'heretofore named' cliaraeters and individuals the following items for' which we have no further: -user.
