The Smart People 4 Woody Ballew and Stephanie Byrd work at an Eagle Football game distributing programs, The purpose of the National Junior Honor Society is to promote scholar- ship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. During the school year Honor Society members participate as guides during PTA Open House, serve as hostesses at the sports ban- quets, donate a Thanksgiving basket to a needy family, and make a donation to the Joy Fund at Christmas. Money raisers during the year include selling football pro- grams at home games, sponsoring the Valentine Day Dance and a spring fund raising activity. The Honor Society holds two induc- tion ceremonies a year. The ninth grade selection is mode after first semester. The eighth grade tapping is done in May. The club goals in addition to ser- vice, is to develop leadership potential, foster development of strong moral character, and encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation. This year the club was involved in various projects such as food collections for the needy and raising the flag for the school each day. 95
