MILLER The tardy bell rings, there is a clang of lockers, and throughout the building the familiar voice of the principal can be heard as he gives the regular morning announcements over the inter com. This is only the beginning of Mr. Miller's overflowing daily schedule which will not slacken until the last bell has rung. Marshall Miller guides the students in his friendly way, listening to their problems, coordinating their classes, and trying to make each one of them happy. His philosophy, that the school is for the students, is exemplified through his cheerful, fair-minded at- titude while working with the students. Mr. Miller's interest in the youth of Independence does not stop at the boundaries of the school's cam- pus. He is a leading personality in the Wagon Wheel District of Boy Scouts. Before becoming principal of junior High, he was an algebra teacher at this school. When asked to comment on his twenty years of guiding the students of Junior High, Mr. Miller re- plied, One of my greatest satisfactions is to see Junior High boys and girls grow into well adjusted young people. LOUIS MAN NEN Before coming to Independence, Mr. Louis Man- nen taught in Belton, Missouri. Formerly a teacher of shop and algebra at Junior High, he assumed his duties as vice-principal in 1955. Mr. Mannen counsels students and assists Mr. Miller in the numerous duties connected with keep- ing Junior High School functioning smoothly. His goal is to help the students realize that their future success and happiness is primarily their re- sponsibility, that knowledge acquired from properly directed social life as well as from textbooks lays a foundation for the building of a successful life.
